Priyadarshan has stepped away from ‘Hera Pheri 3’ and announced his ninth collaboration with Akshay Kumar, a comedy thriller backed by Tips, expected to roll by December. His planned projects with Pankaj Tripathi and Mohanlal have been postponed to next year. Akshay was last seen in ‘Welcome To The Jungle’.
Priyadarshan, who recently parted ways with ‘Hera Pheri 3’, has now revealed details of his next film alongside Akshay Kumar. This will be the ninth time the two have worked together, this time on a comedy thriller backed by Tips, with shooting slated to kick off before the year wraps up.
Priyadarshan’s exit from ‘Hera Pheri 3’
‘Hera Pheri 3’ was initially the plan, but the National Award-winning filmmaker recently confirmed he had stepped away from directing it, opening the door for a new project. According to Mid-day, Priyadarshan has written the story, which is a combination of fun and thrills. The film will roll by the year-end, most likely in December. Akshay and he are excited about the project because though he has attempted comedies and thrillers in the past, he feels this belongs to a genre that he hasn’t attempted before. He will develop the screenplay with Rohan Shankar, who also worked on ‘Bhooth Bangla’.
Priyadarshan’s other projects postponed
Priyadarshan was previously reported to be spending the rest of 2026 on a dramedy featuring Pankaj Tripathi, with a Mohanlal film lined up next. Those plans have now changed, though, as both projects have been deferred to the following year. As per the reports, Mohanlal’s movie was to kick off in October in Kerala. But its script as well as that of the Pankaj Tripathi-starrer is being reworked.
Akshay Kumar’s recent work
On the professional front, Akshay Kumar was most recently seen in ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, directed by Ahmed Khan and produced by Firoz A. Nadiadwala. The film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Sanjay Dutt, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Kiku Sharda, Krushna Abhishek, Daler Mehndi, Farida Jalal, Kiran Kumar and others.
