Outlander finale promises satisfying ending

'Outlander' producers promise satisfying ending while books from Diana Gabaldon continue

The journey of ‘Outlander’ reaches its poignant conclusion with Season 8, sending viewers on an emotional rollercoaster as we say goodbye to the legendary romance of Claire and Jamie. Though the literary saga carries on, the creators promise a conclusion that honors the series’ legacy and resolves long-standing questions.

Starz is preparing to close the chapter on ‘Outlander.’ The long-running drama will end with Season 8, wrapping up Claire and Jamie’s sweeping romance while the book saga from Diana Gabaldon continues beyond the show. Producers now face the same challenge that tripped up other major franchises.

‘Outlander’ season 8 ending plan

Speaking to CBR, executive producer Maril Davis and showrunner Matthew B. Roberts addressed the pressure of finishing early. The final season draws largely from the most recent novel, ‘Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone,’ with a few hints from the forthcoming tenth book. Roberts knows viewers will not all agree on the outcome. “You’re never going to please everybody.” Davis echoed the difficulty of ending before Gabaldon completes her saga. “It’s tough to end the TV series before the book series concludes. I think no matter what ending we have, it’s going to be bittersweet.” Roberts said his priority was tone and continuity.“Really authentic season of Outlander. We weren’t going to try to make every episode a very special episode of Outlander. I wanted this to fit fully into the series, and I think we successfully have done that.” The producers worked closely with Gabaldon, but they still had to create material without finished source pages. “We’ve come up with an ending that, I think, is very satisfying, and I hope serves as our love letter to Outlander,” Davis said.

Caitriona Balfe promises satisfying close

Lead actor Caitríona Balfe also teased answers ahead. Claire and Sam Heughan’s Jamie have crossed wars, centuries, and heartbreak. Season 8 will tie off lingering threads while continuing the emotional journey.“I don’t know what I can say, or somebody swoops in and kills me,” Balfe told the outlet when asked about Claire’s powers. “I think, I think that we see more of the relationships maybe, maybe that’s I think there’s a lot of loose ends that get sort of tied up, and I hope that those are kind of satisfying conclusions for people.”The universe will continue. Prequel series ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ already has a second season order. Season 8 premieres March 6 on Starz.
