Navya opens up on dinner conversations in the Bachchan family

Navya Nanda reveals if dinner conversations with Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and the whole family are feisty: 'We have a lot of respect..'

When most families sit down for dinner, the chatter usually drifts to work updates, weekend plans, or what’s on the menu. But picture a table that seats Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and their kids, you’d expect fireworks, right? Turns out, it’s not dramatic at all, though it’s never dull either. According to Navya Naveli Nanda, their family meals are filled with “healthy discussions” rather than heated arguments. Navya had launched her podcast where one saw her with mom Shweta Bachchan and nani Jaya Bachchan. The three generation of women would often have clashes due to differences in their opinion. In a recent interview, Navya has opened up on how conversations are at the dinner table within the family. When asked if there are fights within the family with her opinion being different from perhaps that of her grandparents, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Navya said in a chat with Barkha Dutt for Mojo Story, “I’ve spent so much time with my grandparents growing up and I still do. We live together. We don’t fight but we have a healthy debate all the time.”

She was asked if dinner conversations are feisty and she responded, “It’s a lot of conversation around things that are relevant and that matter. It’s always nice to get a perspective that you don’t have because they’ve lived a life which we haven’t and they have a perspective that we don’t. For anyone who has seen our podcast, you can see that every episode is a clash. But surprisingly, there isn’t a clash though we are different in our ways of how we are as people, we have similar values and that defines me. There’s specific values that both side of the family have put up.” Navya also opened up on the values she’s imbibed while growing up when she was told that all the members of their family are extremely well-mannered at all times. When asked if that comes from her grandmom Jaya Bachchan, Navya said, “Respect is something which is at the heart of who we are as people. We have a lot of respect for each other not just as people but about the work we do. For us, it’s like bare minimum that we have is well mannered behaviour.”She further added, “Ya it comes from nana, nani and also my father’s side of the family, my dadi was a strong woman, someone who we all looked up to and loved. Someone who inspired my entrepreneur journey as well. Those were the values I grew up around. All of us have similar mannerisms and how we are at home. It comes from watching each other do it. I’ve seen my father’s side of the family do it when it comes to their business and then I’ve seen my nana, nani, mamu do it in their field and both these fieleds are so different with each other. But their values remain same.”
