Veteran actor Satish Shah passed away on October 25, 2025, at the age of 74, due to cardiac arrest. His sudden passing, prompted celebs and fans to take to social media to express their shock, mourn his demise and honour his legacy as one of cimea’s comedy greats. Now, Naseeruddin Shah, who was the lead actor of the film ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaar’, remembered the late star as a man who could light up the surroundings with his infectious laugh and warmth.
Naseeruddin Shah says Satish Shah had much more to offer than just comedy
Naseeruddin, in his note published by The Indian Express, shared how the Hindi film industry typecast an extremely talented actor like Satish, reducing his range to just being a comedian. His note read, “Of course, his passing is a loss, and he’ll be sorely missed. But I consider a bigger loss to be the fact that despite, or because of, his dazzling performance gifts, his acute perception of people, his understanding of the acting process, and his impeccable timing, he let himself get categorized as a comedian and stayed stuck there, seemingly content with it.”
Naseeruddin calls Hindi cinema ‘Follywood’
The actor further expressed that he wonders if there is a hidden motive in Hindi cinema to keep a talented actor at bay by typecasting them in movies. The note read, “I often wonder if it serves some dark purpose of Follywood to never let actors escape typecasting.”Shah stated that he always wondered why people who are massively entertaining in real life “seldom make actors of depth. Several cases seem to testify to that.”Naseeruddin went on to add that an actor like Satish Shah was doing an injustice to his “enormous talent” by playing ‘safe’. However, he went on to add, “He savoured the good life, and he lived it to the full.”
On his first meeting with Satish Shah
Naseeruddin Shah recalled his first meeting with the actor at the Film and Television Institute of India. He stated that the late actor was his junior and noticed him in the cricket nets. According to Naseeruddin, Satish had a “round but amazingly agile body.”The veteran star also shed light on the friendship his wife, Ratna Pathak Shah, shared with Satish after starring together in the sitcom ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’.
Naseeruddin wished to share a stage with Satish Shah one last time
The three-time National Award-winning actor added, “His passing away was also a grim reminder that we, of that generation, are all on borrowed time now.” He concluded his note, expressing his wish to share a stage with his friend one more time, “in the theatre up in the sky.”
