Mona recalls father losing his foot in the 1971 India-Pak war

Mona Singh says Border 2 script ‘chose’ her; recalls father losing his foot in the 1971 India-Pakistan war: 'I am a fauji’s daughter'

Mona Singh, who plays Sunny Deol’s wife in Border 2, revealed that the project holds a deeply personal significance for her. Referring to the 1971 India-Pakistan war — the backdrop of the film — Mona said the script of Border 2 “chose” her. She explained that the emotional pull was immediate and undeniable.“I am a fauji’s daughter and my dad fought the 1971 war,” she said.

‘My father lost his foot’

The actress went on to share that one of the film’s key moments closely mirrors her father’s real-life experience during the war. In Border 2, Sunny Deol’s character steps into a minefield — a scene that struck a painful chord with Mona.“They stepped on a mine. My father (Jasbir Singh) lost his foot. So, the determination, the resilience, the fear, the anxiety, the pathos and pain that Simi Kaler’s character carries, I think I had already lived all of that because of my father,” Mona shared at a media interaction in Mumbai. She emphasised that wars are not fought by soldiers alone, but also by their families who endure uncertainty and silent suffering back home.Calling Border 2 a tribute, Mona said being part of the film felt like an ode not just to her father, but to the sacrifices of countless military families.

Mona Singh’s Inspiring 6-Month Transformation Story

A story rooted in history and emotion

Mona also praised director Anurag Singh, calling it a privilege to work with him. She said filmmakers who understand the value of silence and pauses in storytelling are rare, adding that she loved every scene and dialogue in the film and felt honoured to contribute to such a layered narrative. Set during the 1971 India-Pakistan War, Border 2 expands the world of the 1997 classic, depicting the combined operations of the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy while continuing to underline the human cost of conflict. The film has been performing exceptionally well at the box office and has collected Rs 316 crore domestically so far, according to a Sacnilk report.Border 2 also stars Diljit Dosanjh, Ahaan Shetty, and Varun Dhawan alongside Sunny Deol and Mona Singh.
