Mindy Kaling reveals her motivation for weight loss

Mindy Kaling reveals her motivation for weight loss amid constant scrutiny: ‘I want to stave off things like diabetes’

Mindy Kaling has been a public figure for more than two decades, and the opinions on her life tend to go overboard – but she’s all cool about it. The 46-year-old actor-writer candidly revealed her motivation to stay fit and opened up about the scrutiny on her weight loss that constantly surrounds her bubble. While she doesn’t necessarily like being criticised about her personal choices, the comedian openly claimed that she understands where the audience comes from, as someone who consumes pop culture.

Mindy Kaling opens up about weight loss

Over the years, Kaling channelised her desire to lose weight and become fit as a life goal at the time. However, she revealed that now all she thinks about is becoming healthy so that she gets an extra 20 years with her children. “When I was younger, I would want to lose weight because of vanity reasons. Now I want to lose weight or have lost weight because I want to stave off things like diabetes,” she said, before adding, “I had it on both sides of my family, and trying to avoid those kinds of things will, I think, help longevity for me, and that’s my goal,” during a conversation with Bustle. The realisation about her body hit her when she thought about her path of parenthood and the relationships in her life. “Do I wake up every day being like, ‘I look amazing and I’m so gorgeous’? No, unsurprisingly, but I truly feel so healthy,” she continued, mentioning that she may write about her weight loss journey in the future.

Mindy Kaling is empathetic about scrutiny

During the interview with the outlet, Kaling expressed that she gets why some fans are frustrated with her. Talking about how it is not a fun moment when some of the favourite actors lose weight all of a sudden, ‘The Office’ actress shared that it comes from the love that the fans had when they felt attached. “Of course, it’s never a joy to be scrutinised, but also I truly understand it,” she said, claiming that she knows her pop culture.
