‘Mayasabha’ BO day 1: Film makes only Rs 12 lakhs

'Mayasabha' box office collections day 1: Jaaved Jaaferi film gets tough fight; makes only Rs 12 lakhs

Rahi Anil Barve’s fantasy thriller ‘Mayasabha’ opened to a dismal Rs 12 lakh on its first day, overshadowed by strong competition from ‘Mardaani 3’ and ‘Gandhi Talks’. Despite a unique concept and known actors, the film struggled to attract audiences. Critics acknowledge the director’s craft but note a lack of emotional connection, leaving viewers with appreciation rather than deep engagement.

‘Mayasabha – The Hall of Illusion’ hit the theatres on the last day along with ‘Mardaani 3’. This is the second film by ‘Tumbbad’ director Rahi Anil Barve, and many people were curious to see what he made this time. But the first-day numbers were very low.According to early reports by the Sacnilk website the film made only Rs 12 lakhs India gross on day 1. The worldwide number stood at Rs 13 lakhs.

Small opening for a fantasy film

The makers hoped that the fantasy thriller theme would pull people in but that did not happen. The movie stars Jaaved Jaaferi, Mohammad Samad, Veena Jamkar, and Deepak Damle in key roles. Even with known faces, the response stayed slow. The Hindi net box office for day 1 was Rs 12 lakhs which is the same as the gross number from India.

Big competition from other releases

One big reason for the low numbers is strong competition. Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani 3 released around the same time and pulled a large share of the audience. Another film, ‘Gandhi Talks’, starring Aditi Rao Hydari and Vijay Sethupathi, also drew interest because of its unique concept. So Mayasabha had a hard time getting people to choose it over these bigger films.

What the film tries to show

‘Mayasabha’ is a fantasy story that tries to mix mystery and deep emotion. The director Rahi Anil Barve is known for strong craft and unique style, and he does that again here. The film follows the journey of a boy named Vasu, played by Mohammad Samad. The story takes him into strange and magical spaces.

What ETimes review says

ETimes shared a review that talks honestly about what works and what does not. It says, “Mohammad Samad brings a natural ease to Vasu and gives the film its most human moments.” It also says, “Veena Jamkar as Zeenat and Deepak Damle as Ravrana bring energy when they are on screen, and the film briefly comes alive in those interactions.”But the review also says the film does not connect fully. It says, “These performances show that a sharper, more gripping film is hiding underneath the surface, but it never fully appears.”It adds, “‘Mayasabha’ leaves you with more appreciation than emotion. You respect the attempt, the craft, and the seriousness of intent, but respect is not the same as involvement.”The final line is very clear: “This is not a film to be recommended casually. If you enjoy watching films that sit in one mood and refuse to entertain in obvious ways, then this film offers something. If you expect a story to hold your attention and reward your time, then this is a major letdown.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and data in this article are compiled from diverse public and industry sources.
