Manish gets candid on typecasting in Bollywood

Manish Chaudhari gets candid on typecasting in Bollywood, recalls legends like Amjad Khan, and says relevance across generations matters

Bollywood actor Manish Prakash Chaudhari recently opened up on the challenges of being typecast in the industry. Speaking in a recent interview, the actor admitted that typecasting has been a constant part of his journey.“Not a single person, but poori industry ne typecasting ki hai,” Manish said in an interview with Instant Bollywood. He added, “Typecasting is part of cinema. You want to see a familiar energy, a familiar face in similar kinds of roles because it makes you feel connected.”

Looking back at cinema legends

Manish explained how audiences often enjoy watching actors in recurring shades of characters. Drawing parallels with icons of the past, he shared, “A person plays similar kinds of roles and feels connected to the audiences that way via that character. My generation grew up looking at several legends like Amjad Khan and others — they all played similar kinds of characters, but the audiences loved to watch them that way. So that happens a lot.”Despite the limitations, the actor views typecasting as both a challenge and a bliss. He also called it a reminder of the impact certain characters leave on viewers.

Staying relevant with the new generation

Currently, Manish is gearing up for his upcoming project, ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood.’ In another chat with NDTV, he expressed his excitement about working with fresh voices in the industry. “It feels great to work with debutants. The new-age directors are coming to the fore,” he said.Manish emphasized how important it is for actors to evolve with time. “It’s important to be relevant as an actor across as many generations as possible,” he noted. He appreciated that younger filmmakers continue to bring him opportunities.Manish further added, “The new-age filmmakers bring fresh ideas to the table, and I’m glad this generation is still interested in casting me.”
