Mahavatar Narsimha beats SZP as 5th biggest Hindi hit of 2025

‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ beats Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ as the 5th biggest Hindi hit of 2025

Ashwin Kumar’s Mahavatar Narsimha has achieved a historic feat, surpassing Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par to become the fifth-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025. The mythological animation drama demonstrated remarkable staying power, maintaining strong collections despite competition from major releases like Saiyaara and War 2. Its success highlights the audience’s growing interest in well-told stories rooted in Indian history and mythology.

Ashwin Kumar’s Mahavatar Narsimha continues its victorious run at the ticket windows, scripting history in its fifth week. The mythological animation drama has now gone past the Hindi collections of Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par (Rs 166.19 crore), emerging as the fifth biggest Hindi grosser of 2025.What makes this achievement particularly impressive is the film’s steady hold over several weeks, despite stiff competition from other major releases like strong holdover from Saiyaara in it’s first week to surviving the mega clash of Rajinikanth’s Coolie with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2.Week 1: Strong but not spectacular The film began on a modest note, with its Hindi version bringing in Rs 32.45 crore in the opening week. The first Friday stood at only Rs 1.35 crore, but a strong word of mouth helped it rise sharply over the weekend, particularly on Sunday when it crossed Rs 6.8 crore. Although not in the league of massive openers, the trend was healthy, laying the foundation for longevity at the box office.Week 2: A phenomenal surge The real game-changer arrived in the second week. With collections swelling thanks to growing buzz and festive footfalls, the Hindi version amassed Rs 54.95 crore across seven days. The weekend was exceptional, with Saturday and Sunday alone contributing close to Rs 29 crore. By the end of week two, the film had crossed the Rs 87 crore mark in Hindi, ensuring it was no longer just a regional-pull film but a true pan-India success.Week 3: Blockbuster momentum The third week added another Rs 53.75 crore to its Hindi tally, nearly matching the previous week. Once again, the weekend proved to be the biggest driver, with Saturday and Sunday bringing in over Rs 39 crore combined. The fact that the film could sustain such momentum in its third week spoke volumes about its acceptance among Hindi audiences. By the end of week three, Mahavatar Narsimha had already entered the Rs 140 crore range.Week 4: Expected slowdown but steady gains As expected, week four saw a drop, with Rs 24.6 crore added from the Hindi version. Yet, despite fresh competition at the box office, the film managed decent weekday numbers, particularly in metros where repeat audiences kept the momentum alive. With this, the Hindi total surged past Rs 164 crore, putting it within striking distance of Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par.Week 5: The historic milestone In its fifth week, Mahavatar Narsimha collected Rs 1.4 crore on Friday and Rs 3.5 crore on Saturday as per early estimates by Sacnilk and thereby surpassing Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par’s lifetime collection of Rs 166.19 crore. The road ahead The film now stands as the fifth biggest Hindi hit of 2025, behind juggernauts like Chhaava, Saiyaara and Housefull 5 and Raid 2. For a mythological action animation film directed by Ashwin Kumar, underlines the audience’s growing appetite for well told and rooted stories from Indian history and mythology. With some more gas left in the tank, Mahavatar Narsimha is expected to inch a little higher before wrapping up its run. Regardless, its place among the year’s biggest blockbusters is secure, and its triumph over an Aamir Khan film adds another feather to its cap.
