Lily Collins opens up about her journey with eating disorders: ‘I've always advocated for more awareness and understanding’

In a heartfelt revelation, actress Lily Collins opened up about her personal struggles with eating disorders during Eating Disorder Awareness Week. Drawing from her impactful experiences, including her role in the poignant film ‘To The Bone’ and insights from her memoir ‘Unfiltered,’ she advocates for a deeper understanding of recovery as a highly individualized journey.

In a recent post, the star shared how she dealt with eating disorders for a huge part of her life and how it shaped her as a person.

Lily Collins opens up about her eating disorder

The star celebrated Eating Disorder Awareness Week last week and shared a post about it. In the now-expired post, shared on her social media handle on February 26, the actress opened up about her journey while dealing with eating disorders. She wrote in her post that, “As someone who has struggled with an eating disorder—and was able to tell the story of so many others like me through my character in To The Bone—I’ve always advocated for more awareness and understanding surrounding eating disorders.”She further shared that recovery from such matters can look very different for everyone. She added that organizations and media content, citing her film ‘To The Bone,’ helped her connect with other people who share the same struggles. Over the past couple of years, the actress has been fairly open about her journey with eating disorders. She even featured in the 2017 OTT film ‘To The Bone,’ which she used to raise awareness about the issue. She also wrote her own memoir about the matter, titled ‘Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me.’ In the book, she revealed that her disorder started after her father and stepmother split up when she was only 16 years old.
