Kriti reacts to ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ with Dhanush being called toxic

Kriti Sanon reacts to 'Tere Ishk Mein' with Dhanush being called a 'toxic' love story: 'Debate is the point of art'

Kriti Sanon’s film ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ with Dhanush has gotten a great response at the box office. The film has turned out to be a hit as it’s one of the fewer films this year which did well. However, there’s also been a lot of discussion around the film’s plot and it being called a ‘toxic’ love story. Both the characters have their set of grey shades which is quite different from the quintessential ‘good’ Hindi cinema hero heroines that we see. In a recent interview, Kriti has reacted to all the talk around the film. When asked if she has read the opinions around the film, she said during a chat with Hindustan Times, “I’m obsessed. I’m always reading what people are saying. not just critics. I love debating: that’s the point of art. Not everyone sees a painting the same way, and the same goes for cinema. You connect with something because of your experiences, because you’ve known someone like Shankar or Mukti. TIM is interesting because it shows toxic love, but the girl also calls out the toxicity.” Talking about her character and how it got equal presence as the male lead, Kriti said, “It’s very refreshing. When I read the film, on paper Shankar (played by Dhanush) had the punches, the lines, he seemed to be leading a lot of things. But the layers of Mukti were somewhere in Aanand (L Rai, director) sir’s head. He was clear he wasn’t making a one-sided love story. He told me, ‘I see more of Dhanush’s love and pain in the first half, but I see more of Mukti’s in the second’. It’s beautiful when two characters are equally powerful; it doesn’t lessen the male character’s weight at all. It becomes more balanced, more real. A girl might relate more to Mukti, but they’re both giving equally to the story.”
