Kiara reveals emotional story behind her Met Gala debut look

Kiara Advani reveals emotional story behind her viral Met Gala 2025 debut look: ‘I wanted my pregnancy to be part of it’

Kiara Advani recently opened up about the emotional story behind her much-talked-about Met Gala 2025 debut appearance, which also marked the debut of her baby bump on a global platform. From revealing how her pregnancy became the inspiration behind the outfit to sharing how nervous she initially was about attending the global fashion event, the actress candidly spoke about the experience.During the conversation, Raj Shamani mentioned reports claiming that Kiara’s Met Gala outfit generated nearly $15 million worth of organic media value online.Reacting to the reports, the actress admitted she was surprised by the scale of attention the look received. Kiara further revealed that celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania and designer Gaurav Gupta were always her first choices for the event.“The day I told Anaita that I was going to the Met Gala and asked if she would style me, she immediately said, ‘Let’s get Gaurav to do something.’ We never had a second thought after that,” the actress said.

‘I wanted the outfit to connect with my pregnancy’

Kiara also revealed that she specifically wanted her pregnancy to be reflected in the outfit’s design. “My only brief to Gaurav was that while I understood there was a theme, could we somehow connect it with my pregnancy? Because how often do you go to the Met Gala while pregnant?” she said. The actress shared that she attended the event during the final phase (just before her seventh month) in which she was medically allowed to travel.“I was wondering if I should even go because it was such a long journey and I was pregnant. But my best friend told me that if my baby later found out I had the chance to attend the Met Gala and didn’t go, the baby would fight with me over it,” she recalled.

Umbilical cord-inspired concept and metallic breastplate

‘Everyone inside the Met Gala is equal’

Kiara further described the Met Gala as one of the most organised and eye-opening experiences of her life.“Once you’re inside, everyone is equal. No entourage, no managers, no PR teams — everyone is simply there as a guest,” she shared. The actress also called it her first major international networking experience where she interacted with people from different industries and walks of life. She concluded by saying that the entire journey felt emotional and “full circle,” adding that she and Gaurav Gupta even documented the process because it meant so much to them.
