Katy Perry’s top controversies

Katy Perry's top controversies: From political opinions to high-profile collaborations

Katy Perry is one of the most prominent figures in the music world. Though her debut album didn’t get her fame, her next hit in 2008 helped her find a strong footing in the industry, and since then, there has been no looking back. However, in her career span, she has had her fair share of controversies. From her connection with the polarizing figures in the industry to her political opinions, her name has sparked debate and discussions quite often. Here’s a look at Katy Perry’s top controversies.

The one with Kesha and Dr. Luke

In 2014, Kesha filed a lawsuit against producer Dr. Luke. She accused him of drugging and ra***g her. Their legal battle was a decade-long and left scars on Kesha. After the legal feud was over, Katy Perry worked with Dr. Luke in 2024 for the album ‘143.’ She even collaborated with him on the lead song ‘Women’s World,’ which was ironic considering the accusations that were made against him. Just a few hours before the announcement of Katy and Dr. Luke’s collab announcement, Kesha reportedly reacted to their work by just tweeting “lol.”

Katy Perry’s political controversy

In 2022, Katy Perry faced flak for showing support for Republican-turned-Democrat Rick Caruso for the mayor’s election. She chose him over Karen Bass, who was known for her progressive mindset and was the final winner of the election, which made her the first female mayor of the city. To show her support, Katy posted a photo of herself at the voting booth, openly declaring her vote for the controversial personality. Her action didn’t go down well with the internet users. One of the netizens took to X (formerly called Twitter) and wrote, ““As much as the right try to spin it, Katy Perry voting for Rick Caruso is not an indication of anything other than a rich white woman voting for a fake Democrat who will ultimately have no effect on the quality of her life but will worsen the lives of many others.”

Katy Perry’s spaceflight controversy

One of her recent controversies is related to her all-female spaceflight, which was called one of the most expensive ads ever. This space tourism moment, which lasted for 11 minutes, was for Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’s tech company. Since it was an all-female flight, Katy promoted it as a divine and exciting moment for feminism. However, her thoughts didn’t align with the netizens, as the entire excursion was called useless and overpriced.

Katy Perry and Justine Trudeau

Fast forward to the present, the ‘Teenage Dream’ hitmaker Katy Perry might be living the romance of her dreams currently, as reports of her yacht PDA moments with Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are going viral on the internet. From their dinner dates to the yacht moments, the rumored couple has recently been featured in a lot of headlines. Go to Source
