Babita Kapoor never approved of Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan’s relationship

Babita Kapoor never approved of Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan's relationship: 'She got them to break up,' reveals Naseem Mukri

Naseem Mukri recently opened up about Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor’s relationship and how the two of them broke apart because of Karisma’s mother, Babita Kapoor.

Mohammed Umar Mukri’s daughter, Naseem Mukri, was quite privy to a lot of happenings in the Bollywood industry from an early age thanks to her father. Looking back on her career in the industry and writing dialogues for films, the star opened up about the film ‘Haan… Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya’ and how Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor’s relationship fell apart soon after the film was released.

Naseem Mukri on Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor’s relationship

In a recent interview, Mukri opened up about the film, ‘Haan… Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya,’ released in 2002, discussing Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor’s relationship and why the film flopped. When asked about the film’s issues, Mukri clarified that casting was never a problem, since the lead stars, Bachchan and Kapoor, were both in love at the time. However, she revealed that a lot of “movement” and other things happened on set, noting that Babita Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor’s mother, was not entirely happy with their relationship. She told Vickey Lalwani, “Babita jo hai woh allow nahin kar rahi thi yeh ishq. She was very against the ishq na, she got them to break up because of this.“ (Because Babita wasn’t allowing this romance. She was strongly opposed to it, and she actually got them to break up because of that.) The screenplay writer also shared that in order to get them to break up, Karisma’s mother would make demands for large sums of money. She mentioned during the interview that, “She aid Abhishek ko bol apne itna itna crore tere naam pe kare to main teri usse shaadi karwaungi.“ (She said, “Tell Abhishek that if he transfers crores in your name, I will get you married to him.) When asked why there was so much issue with their relationship, she shared that the Kapoor family had a problem with their status in the film industry. “Because she was a bigger heroine than him”, she mentioned.Following this issue, the two broke things off. Karisma Kapoor married Sunjay Kapoor the same year she and the ‘Bunty aur Bubli’ actor broke their engagement.

About Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor

In the early 2000s, Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor were the Bollywood It couple, and were briefly engaged as well. However, their engagement was called off in 2003. According to various reports, neither the celebrities nor their family members ever truly revealed why their engagement was called off, especially since they had been together for almost 5 years. In 2003, however, the actress had shared a few words about heartbreak while talking to Rediff. At the time, she said, “It was deliberate. I withdrew into a shell. I just was not ready to go public with my grief. I chose a dignified silence because that is the kind of person I am. I have always been a woman of few words. The beginning of this year was traumatic for me. I wouldn’t wish any girl to go through it. I was forced to deal with my hurt and pain on my own. I guess time is the best healer. Though I have been through a lot, I have come to terms with whatever has happened. All I will say is, whatever is destined is bound to happen. I was emotionally unprepared to confront my problems. Life deals you different cards. You have to just go with the shuffle.”Currently, Karisma Kapoor is the mother of two children; Samaira Kapoor and Kiaan Raj Kapoor. Her ex-husband , Sunjay Kapoor passed away in 2025 due to a heart attack. On the other hand, Abhishek Bachchan married Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2007. The couple has a beautiful daughter, Aaradhana Bachchan, who was born in 2011. Go to Source
