Kashyap on college booking entire theatre to watch SRK’s Deewana

Anurag Kashyap recalls his college booking entire theatre to watch Shah Rukh Khan's movie Deewana: 'We were son proud that our senior...'

Anurag Kashyap reminisced about the electric atmosphere at a Delhi theatre when his college, Hansraj, booked it for Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Deewana’. He recalled the deafening cheers for SRK, a college senior celebrated for his academic and athletic prowess. Kashyap also shared how SRK advised him on public statements, admiring his strength, while a schoolmate highlighted SRK’s all-round talent.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap studied at Hansraj College, Delhi University, where he was a junior to Shah Rukh Khan. In an interview, he recalled that students from the college had booked an entire theatre to watch SRK’s 1992 film Deewana, proudly cheering for their senior. He said the crowd’s cheers during Shah Rukh’s entry scene were so loud that the music couldn’t even be heard. Kashyap also remembered how brilliant a student Shah Rukh was.

Booking an entire theatre for Deewana

Anurag said, “Another memorable theatre experience I had was Shah Rukh Khan’s Deewana. He was my senior at college. Our entire college went to watch the movie. We booked out the Amba theatre, and all of us went. Shah Rukh’s entry in the film was set to the song ‘Koi Na Koi Chahiye’, and the entire crowd went mad. Nobody could even hear the song. We were so proud that our senior was in a big movie for the first time.”

Anurag also shed light on how the superstar was like in college as a student. “He was the hockey captain, he was the basketball captain, he was the sportsman of the year. He was the economics topper. He was incredible; he isn’t a superstar for nothing,” he added.

Advice and admiration from Shah Rukh

In the past, the filmmaker has said that Shah Rukh would often advise him to avoid making political statements publicly. After the success of Pathaan, he called Shah Rukh “the man with the strongest spine” in Bollywood. Kashyap told mid-day, “I understand what he teaches: ‘Speak with your work, and don’t talk unnecessarily.’ He is who he is, and you can see why.”

Schoolmates remember SRK’s talent

Recently, SRK’s another schoolmate, Rahul Dev, also told Connect FM Canada in an interview, “I don’t find it surprising that SRK has become a superstar. There will be no Shah Rukh Khan in the next 1000 years. He took part in various activities in school. He was first in football, hockey, cricket and every game.” On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan will soon be seen in ‘King’. It also stars Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and others. Go to Source
