Karunas praises GV Prakash's no-salary gesture for ‘Youth’, confirms his reunion with Dhanush after 16 years

Actor Karunas praised GV Prakash Kumar’s decision to work on his son’s film ‘Youth’ without demanding a salary, citing respect and affection. Karunas also humorously recalled his long on-screen partnership with Dhanush, joking about deserving a National Award if Dhanush receives one for their upcoming film ‘Kara’ after 16 years.

Actor and comedian Karunas recently made headlines during the promotion of the upcoming Tamil film Youth, directed by his son Ken Karunas. Speaking at the event, Karunas spoke openly about music composer GV Prakash Kumar and also about his long association with actor Dhanush. His speech—especially about GV Prakash’s salary and his reunion with Dhanush on screen—quickly caught the attention of fans and began circulating widely on social media.

Karunas jokes about his on-screen partnership with Dhanush

During the event, Karunas recalled his long connection with Dhanush in cinema. He said that among all the actors he has worked with, he has acted the most with Dhanush. Speaking in a humorous tone, he joked that if Dhanush receives a National Award for a film they acted in together, then he too deserves one.“After 16 years, I have done a film with Dhanush in Kara. If the government gives Dhanush a National Award for that film, they should give me one too. Otherwise, I will not stay quiet,” he said, making the audience laugh. His comments reminded fans of the popular on-screen chemistry the two actors have shared in several films.

How GV Prakash joined the film without discussing salary

Karunas also revealed how GV Prakash Kumar came on board as the music composer for Youth. He said that when he approached the composer and narrated the story, GV Prakash did not ask about the salary or payment details. Karunas explained that he already knew the composer’s usual remuneration and honestly told him that the film’s budget would not allow him to pay such a large amount. However, he assured him that he would pay whatever was possible within the film’s limits.

An emotional gesture that Karunas will always remember

Karunas said GV Prakash’s response surprised him deeply. According to the actor, the composer told him that he did not want any salary and would compose the music purely out of respect and affection for Karunas and his son Ken.Karunas added that GV Prakash is currently working with many leading stars and usually receives a huge salary for his work, so hearing him refuse payment was an emotional moment. The actor said that in his 25 years in the film industry, very few people had shown such generosity, and he would always remain thankful to GV Prakash for the gesture.
