‘Kaantha’ box office collection day 9: Film crosses Rs 21 Cr

'Kaantha' box office collection day 9: Dulquer Salmaan’s film crosses Rs 21 Cr; Struggles to recover budget

Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Kaantha’ has amassed over Rs 21 crore net in India by its ninth day, but the film’s fortunes have taken a hit with a pronounced drop in weekend earnings. On its second Saturday, collections plummeted by 91% compared to his earlier work, ‘Lucky Baskhar’. With a hefty budget of Rs 40 crore, ‘Kaantha’ has only recouped about 53.

Dulquer Salmaan’s latest film, ‘Kaantha’, entered its second weekend with high expectations. Unfortunately, the film couldn’t maintain its early pace.As per the reports, ‘Kaantha’ has now earned Rs 21.52 crore net in India by the end of day 9, crossing the Rs 21 crore mark but falling short of entering the safe zone. The film had performed fairly well through its first week, gathering Rs 20.75 crore, but a steep decline began on the second Friday. As reported by the Sacnilk website the movie collected Rs 19.25 crores in 6 days and earned around Rs 1.50 crores on the seventh day.On Day 8, the movie collected only Rs 30 lakh, marking a worrying drop. Day 9 brought a slight improvement at Rs 47 lakh.

Comparison with ‘Lucky Baskhar’ shows sharp decline

The Dulquer Salmaan starrer faced another setback when its second Saturday numbers were compared with his earlier release, Lucky Baskhar, according to Koimoi website. On its second Saturday, Lucky Baskhar earned Rs 5.15 crore, which means ‘Kaantha’ has registered a massive 91% lower collection during the same timeframe.Gross earnings placed at Rs 25.39 crore including GST. Made on a production budget of approximately Rs 40 crore, ‘Kaantha’ has managed to recover just 53.8% so far. This significantly limits its chances of turning profitable.

A film about films

‘Kaantha’ takes viewers back to the 1950s. The movie depicts a dramatic, high-stakes filmmaking environment. According to ETimes review, the director Selvamani Selvaraj crafted a narrative rich in ego, ambition, and betrayal which resembles a Shakespearean tragedy set within a troubled film production.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
