‘He’s the best brother-in-law anyone could ask for’: Jyoti Mukerji calls Aditya Chopra the ‘best brother-in-law’, reveals she stayed away from Yash Raj Films despite family ties with Rani Mukerji

Actor Jyoti Mukerji has opened up about her decision to carve her own path in the entertainment industry despite being part of one of Bollywood’s most influential film families. While describing Aditya Chopra as the “best brother-in-law anyone could ask for,” the ‘Ikka’ actor revealed why she deliberately chose not to work with Yash Raj Films early in her career, saying she wanted to be recognised for her talent rather than her family connections.

Jyoti Mukerji shares Aditya Chopra is the best brother-in-law

Speaking about Aditya Chopra in an interview with Rediff, Jyoti Mukerji had only praise for the filmmaker, describing him as “the best brother-in-law anyone could ask for.” According to her, one of his most admirable qualities is his ability to keep the entire family united with ease. She said Aditya naturally brings everyone together and plays an important role in maintaining close family bonds, praising him for his presence within the family rather than his filmmaking achievements.

Why did Jyoti Mukerji stay away from Yash Raj Films?

Despite belonging to one of Bollywood’s most prominent film families, Jyoti Mukerji revealed she consciously avoided working with Yash Raj Films early in her career. The actress explained that she wanted to build her own identity rather than lean on family connections. She said, “What they don’t see is the number of rejections I went through. Even if someone helps you get your first opportunity, you can’t sustain a career unless you know your craft. I wanted people to hire me because they believed in my work, not because I was related to someone. I didn’t want my hard work to be overshadowed by conversations about family connections.”She added that she could have taken an easier route but deliberately chose the harder path, wanting her work to speak for itself instead of her surname or family ties.

Jyoti Mukerji on her bond with Rani Mukerji

Jyoti Mukerji also spoke about her relationship with Rani Mukerji, describing her as much more than a sister-in-law. Having grown up without a sibling, Jyoti said she feels like she has found one in Rani. She shared that the two share an open relationship where she can talk about anything without hesitation, though she prefers not to discuss their bond too much publicly, fearing it might get “jinxed.”The actress praised Rani for her deep devotion to family, saying her world revolves around her loved ones. Jyoti also spoke fondly of how Rani looks after her parents and showers affection on Jyoti’s children.

Jyoti Mukerji’s work front

On the professional side, Jyoti recently featured in Ikka alongside Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna, a project she says taught her a lot simply by observing the veteran actors at work. She made her film debut with Maharaj, starring Junaid Khan, which premiered globally on Netflix in 2024. Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, the historical drama was based on the landmark Maharaj Libel Case of 1862.Beyond films, Jyoti has built a strong television career, having featured in shows such as ‘Tera Mera Saath Rahe’, ‘Durga Aur Charu’, ‘Dear Ishq’, ‘Bhagya Lakshmi’, ‘Suhagan Chudail’, ‘Iss Ishq Ka Rabb Rakha’, ‘Ami Dakini’ and ‘Jhanak’. She also shared screen space with Rani Mukerji in ‘Mardaani 3’. Go to Source
