Jr NTR took a ‘very brave’ decision for ‘Dragon’; says director Prashanth Neel: ‘It’s darker than anything I’ve written’

The collaboration between Jr NTR and ‘KGF’ and ‘Salaar’ director Prashanth Neel in ‘Dragon’ has been one of the most anticipated projects which fans have been eagerly waiting for. The dark theme which Neel is known for using in his grand films or the weight shed by the actor having the talking point about the project. Now, the filmmaker has claimed that the film is “darker than anything” he has written before.

Prashanth Neel hails Jr NTR to play Lugar

As per a report by Pinkvilla Team Dragon shared that Prashanth Neel said Jr NTR made a very bold decision by accepting the role of Luger in the film. According to the director, the character is darker and more intense than anything he has written before.“For a star of his stature to accept such a risky role is incredibly brave,” he said.

Team took 3 years to fully commit

He also explained that it took almost three years for the team to fully understand the emotional reasons behind the character’s actions. After everything finally came together, Jr NTR agreed to take up the challenging role even though it could surprise his fans.“It took us almost three years to arrive at the emotional reasoning behind why this character does what he does. When everything finally fell into place, he simply said, ‘Let’s do it,’ despite knowing how challenging and unexpected it would be for his audience,” he added. The film reportedly revolves around Luger, an operative connected to a substance-smuggling syndicate that faces a major crackdown by authorities.

Cast of ‘Dragon’

Along with Jr NTR, the film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Anil Kapoor, Biju Menon, Ashutosh Rana, and Sidhant Gupta in important roles.There were earlier reports that Tovino Thomas was supposed to play a key role in the film. However, the actor reportedly stepped away because of scheduling issues and the long shooting timeline.Later, rumours also suggested that Shahid Kapoor was being considered for the role of the main antagonist. However, the makers have not officially confirmed these reports yet.The movie is currently scheduled for release on June 11, 2026.
