‘Ramayana’ trailer: Ranbir’s Rama finds perfect nemesis in Yash’s Ravana

'Ramayana' trailer: Ranbir Kapoor's Lord Rama finds the perfect nemesis in Yash's menacing Ravana in a visually breathtaking epic - WATCH

The first trailer of Namit Malhotra’s ‘Ramayana’ is finally here, and it is every bit the cinematic spectacle fans had hoped for. After months of anticipation, leaked footage from preview screenings and endless online speculation surrounding the Nitesh Tiwari directorial, the makers on July 30, released the breathtaking trailer.

‘Ramayana’ trailer releases online

Keeping to the auspicious Brahma Muhurat, the trailer released on the film’s official YouTube page at 4.15 am. The team went on to share the trailer with a tagline that read, “The Ramayana Trailer. This is where the EPIC BEGINS.”

About the ‘Ramayana’ trailer

The four-minute and nine-second trailer lets fans in on the ultimate battle of good vs evil, along with stunning visuals, emotionally charged moments and impressive VFX on a scale rarely seen in Indian filmmaking. The trailer opens with Yash’s Ravana rising from the shadows to claim the throne. The trailer then moves on to depict sweeping shots of Ayodhya with a narration that sets the stage for an ancient tale. Ranbir Kapoor makes his appearance as Lord Rama, in simple saffron robes before gradually transitioning into the warrior prince. Sai Pallavi’s Sita is introduced, sharing tender scenes with Rama before the narrative shifts towards their exile and Lakshmana, played by Ravi Dubey, standing firmly by their side. Fans also get their first look of Sunny Deol’s Hanuman.

Yash’s Ravana steals all the attention

However, it is Yash’s Ravana who completely transforms the trailer. The trailer presents Ravana as an imposing presence, whose elaborate golden armour, intricate costume design and haunting expressions create a villain that feels both regal and terrifying.

Into the world of ‘Ramayana’

Several moments teased in earlier trailer leaks made their way into the official release, including the stunning glimpses of Lanka’s sprawling golden kingdom, massive armies going into battle, giants, monsters and mythical creatures being brought to life onscreen. While the trailer reveals glimpses of the film’s emotional moments between Rama and Sita, their exile, the epic battles and glimpses of key supporting characters, the focus remains on the central conflict rather than revealing too much of the story. If the trailer has one defining achievement, it is establishing the rivalry between Kapoor’s compassionate Lord Rama and his perfect nemesis in Yash’s Ravana. While Rama embodies righteousness, Ravana radiates power, ambition and menace, setting the stage for what promises to be an epic retelling of ‘Our truth, our history.’

Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman’s music shines

Musically, the collaboration between Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman proves to be one of the trailer’s biggest highlights. Much like the ‘Rama First Glimpse’, the music from the Oscar winners plays a major role in elevating the trailer and emotional moments in the film at large. The VFX work, handled by DNEG, delivers larger-than-life graphics and seamless CGI that blend naturally with the live-action performances.

‘Ramayana’ ensemble cast

Ramayana boasts one of the biggest ensembles assembled for an Indian film. It stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi portrays Sita. Yash makes his Bollywood debut as Ravana, with Sunny Deol playing Lord Hanuman and Ravi Dubey essaying the role of Lakshman. The cast also includes Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Arun Govil as King Dashrath, Vivek Oberoi as Vidyutjihva, Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra, Adinath Kothare as Bharata, while Anupam Kher lends his voice to Jatayu.
