Weather: Heavy Rains Trigger Flood Crisis Across Multiple States, Odisha and Uttarakhand Among Worst Hit

Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered flood-like conditions across several parts of India, with states from Odisha to Uttarakhand facing severe challenges. Odisha has been among the worst affected, with districts including Balasore, Jajpur, and Bhadrak witnessing overflowing rivers and widespread flooding. More than two lakh people have reportedly been affected, while rescue teams, including NDRF and state disaster response forces, are working to evacuate stranded residents. Several schools and anganwadi centres have been closed in affected districts. In Assam’s Sivasagar, floodwaters have created a crisis, leaving thousands displaced and awaiting assistance. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is battling intense rainfall, landslides, and flash floods, forcing a temporary halt to the Char Dham Yatra. In Uttarkashi, massive landslides caused panic as large rocks fell near roads, blocking routes and increasing risks for residents and travellers. Rivers including the Alaknanda and Mandakini have crossed danger levels in some areas. Authorities have advised people to follow weather alerts before planning travel, especially in hilly regions where landslides and sudden floods remain a major threat.
