Buchi Babu Sana says Janhvi Kapoor did much more than act

As reported by Bollywood Hungama, according to the filmmaker, Janhvi remained deeply engaged throughout the shoot. She regularly discussed costumes, production design, and the staging of scenes connected to her role.Praising her dedication, the filmmaker stated, “That girl is an incredibly hard-working person — Janhvi. For this film, she was like the assistant director, manager, heroine, production designer, costume designer — everything rolled into one.”

Khushi Kapoor was initially considered

The director also revealed that Khushi Kapoor was the first person he approached for the role of Achiyamma. After meeting her, however, he felt the part required someone with a more mature appearance. He revealed, “I initially narrated the film to Khushi Kapoor. But once I saw her in person, I realised that she’s too young for this character. Now, imagine when I have to reject Khushi and give narration to Janhvi in the same home. I felt bad and asked Janhvi if Khushi didn’t take offence.”The filmmaker said in a chat with M9 that it was an awkward decision, but he believed Janhvi was the ideal choice from the beginning.

‘Peddi’ director explains the difficult decision

Buchi Babu recalled how he had to explain the situation to both sisters. He said creative decisions sometimes require uncomfortable conversations.Recalling the awkward situation, he added, “I explained why I rejected her sister. I looked at Khushi, told her hi, and said, ‘I don’t want you in the film; I want your sister.’ But such things need to be done for cinema. From the beginning, I just knew this role would suit Janhvi. Even as I narrated it to others, I would imagine her in the role.”
