‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ box office collection day 5

'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat' box office collection day 5: The Harshvardhan Rane starrer crosses Rs 30 crore while 'Thamma' sees growth on weekend

Harshvardhan Rane, best remembered for his 2016 romantic drama ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’, returned to the big screen this Diwali with ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’. The film, also starring Sonam Bajwa, went head-to-head with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘Thamma,’ yet it’s holding its own quite well at the box office.Despite sharing screens with a bigger, heavily marketed film, ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ has managed to surprise trade insiders. On its opening day (Tuesday), the film earned around ₹9 crore, which is on par with the opening of ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’. That’s an impressive figure given that ‘Thamma’ occupies nearly three times more screens nationwide. For a film made on a noticeably smaller budget, this start is more than encouraging. It witnessed a controlled drop on its second day, collecting ₹7.5 crore, taking its two-day total to ₹16.5 crore, as per Sacnilk. The minimal decline, around 15% or less, is a solid sign, particularly after a major national holiday when numbers typically dip. On day 3, which is Thursday, the film has made Rs 6 crore. On day 4, Friday, it made around Rs 5.5 crore while on Saturday, the film minted Rs 5.75 crore. The total collection now stands at Rs 34 crore. The film’s performance in East Punjab and West Bengal especially, is outstanding, as these are territories that rarely deliver such strong results for a mid-scale romantic drama, according to Box Office India. The Diwali boost has definitely helped, but the film’s steady run indicates that the response goes beyond just festive footfall. Word of mouth seems to be picking up, and if the momentum holds, ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ could see growth through the weekend. If this continues, then the film should hopefully even get more shows because at the moment, ‘Thamma’ has been allotted three times more shows than ‘Ek Deewane…’If the trend sustains, ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ might well turn into Harshvardhan Rane’s highest solo grosser, surpassing the numbers of ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’, which found its audience much later during re-runs. Meanwhile, ‘Thamma’ has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark in the span of three days.
