Eetha teaser: Shraddha stuns as pregnant lavani dancer Vithabai

‘Eetha’ teaser: Shraddha Kapoor stuns as pregnant lavani dancer Vithabai Narayangaonkar in Laxman Utekar's biopic

Director Laxman Utekar’s ‘Eetha’ stars Shraddha Kapoor as legendary Tamasha artiste Vithabai Narayangaonkar. The teaser, which premiered with ‘Cocktail 2’, shows Vithabai giving birth backstage mid-performance and returning to the stage — a true story of extraordinary courage. The film releases worldwide on August 28, 2026.

Laxman Utekar is once again diving into the pages of Maharashtra’s history for his next film. Following the massive success of ‘Chhaava’, the director is now ready to tell the inspiring story of Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar through ‘Eetha’, with Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role and Randeep Hooda playing a key part. Cinema-goers who caught the opening shows of ‘Cocktail 2’ were pleasantly surprised when the ‘Eetha’ teaser played before the film, offering a breathtaking first glimpse of Shraddha transformed into a lavani dancer. The teaser was officially released to all on June 23.

What happens in the ‘Eetha’ teaser featuring Shraddha Kapoor?

The teaser gives a glimpse into one of the most powerful moments of Vithabai Narayangaonkar’s life. Shraddha fits into the role perfectly from the very first frame. In the teaser, Vithabai is shown heavily pregnant but still performing on stage. When she realises the baby is about to arrive, she quietly goes backstage, gives birth and walks right back on stage to finish her performance. The audience is left stunned and moved by her incredible dedication and bravery.

How was ‘Eetha’ shot and what challenges did Shraddha Kapoor face?

According to historical accounts, the performance was brought to a halt immediately after her delivery so that she could rest and recover. Staying true to the authenticity of the story, the film was shot across multiple locations including Madh Island in Mumbai, Solapur, Aundhewadi, Satara, Nashik and Bhor. The shoot was not without its share of challenges; Shraddha suffered a fracture in her left foot while filming a crucial lavani sequence.

Who was Vithabai Narayangaonkar, the woman Shraddha Kapoor plays in ‘Eetha’?

Vithabai was one of Maharashtra’s most celebrated Tamasha artistes, whose contribution to the folk art form left a lasting mark on its legacy. Born into a family of artists in Pandharpur, she grew up surrounded by various musical traditions including Lavanya, Gavlan and Bhedik, with her family troupe Bhau-Bapu Mang Narayangaonkar being run by her father and uncle, and her grandfather Narayan Khude having laid its foundation. Fondly known as the ‘Tamasha Samradini’ or Tamasha Empress, Vithabai stepped up to carry the family’s legacy forward during a difficult period in her father’s life. Her talent earned her the highest recognition, including the prestigious President’s Award in both 1957 and 1990. However, despite her fame and acclaim, Vithabai spent much of her life battling financial hardship, and reports indicate her hospital bills after her passing were settled by generous donors.

When will Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Eetha’ release in theatres?

‘Eetha’ is set to release in theatres worldwide on August 28, 2026. For now, the teaser is playing exclusively in cinemas, with an official online launch expected to follow soon. Go to Source
