‘Krishnavataram’ actress Sanskruti Jayana, granddaughter of Anandiben Patel, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and former Chief Minister of Gujarat recently welcomed viewers into her stunning heritage home in Gujarat. More than a luxurious residence, the property stands as a tribute to India’s diverse handicraft traditions, with nearly every element handcrafted by skilled artisans. From intricately designed wall prints and handcrafted cushions to bedsheets, table runners and decorative pieces, every corner of the home showcases exceptional craftsmanship. Sanskruti revealed that several artworks displayed throughout the residence took months and in some cases, even years to complete.

A traditional haveli built around family and craft

The home follows the layout of a classic Gujarati haveli, centred on a courtyard that keeps the family connected across floors. In a house tour with Mashable India, Sanskruti explained that her parents wanted the design to reflect this openness, with corridors linking the levels so that “even someone standing upstairs can be part of conversations happening below.”The actress says, “My parents’ vision was to build the house like a traditional Gujarati haveli. Every Gujarati home has a central courtyard where the family gathers. The floors are interconnected through open corridors, so even someone standing upstairs can be part of conversations happening below.”That spirit of connection extends to the home’s décor as well, most of which is handcrafted which is a direct result of her mother’s decades-long relationship with artisans across the country. “My mother has been working with artisans in the field of handicrafts for the last 25 years. I have grown up around them. Every single thing in this house is handmade,” Sanskruti shared.

The wall of wisdom, inspirational quotes, and Kachchi-inspired design

One standout feature is a dedicated wall honouring leaders who shaped India, which the family calls “the wall of wisdom.” Elsewhere, inspirational quotes are woven into walls, corridors and outdoor pathways throughout the property, meant to motivate anyone passing through. The home’s walls also carry design elements inspired by Kachchi border embroidery, lending the space a distinctly Gujarati visual identity, alongside scriptures, miniature artwork, and vintage wedding utensils repurposed as decorative pieces.

Sustainable by design and a nod to her ‘Mr Toilet’ grandfather

Sustainability runs through the home’s DNA. Sanskruti described the property as built for “conscious living,” pointing to rainwater harvesting, solar power, and other eco-friendly practices woven into daily life. That ethos shows up in unexpected places too, even the washrooms have individual colour themes, motivational quotes, and mini libraries, a detail Sanskruti links back to her grandfather, who she said was “popularly known as ‘Mr Toilet'” after winning a Padma Shri for his work in sanitation.”Our house is made for conscious living. It is completely eco-friendly. We do rainwater harvesting, use solar panels for electricity and follow practices that help us coexist with nature,” Sanskruti said.

Open kitchens, a pizza oven and the ‘gratitude walk’

The home’s open kitchen flows into a dining area and outdoor seating space, ideal for the monsoon months, while a separate outdoor kitchen area hosts family gatherings, cooking sessions and bonfires including, as Sanskruti put it, family pizza nights thanks to a dedicated pizza oven on the property.Perhaps the most distinctive space is the “Gratitude Walk,” a pathway lined with inscriptions expressing thanks to nature, the five elements, and life itself, designed to encourage reflection. The property also includes dedicated meditation and yoga spaces, rounding out its focus on mindful living.

More about ‘Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart’

Sanskruti Jayana makes her acting debut in ‘Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart’ (Hridayam), a 2026 Hindi-language devotional film directed by Hardik Gajjar. The first instalment in the planned trilogy also stars Siddharth Gupta, Sushmitha Bhat and Nivaashiyni Krishnan, with music by Prasad S. and cinematography by Ayananka Bose.Based on Raam Mori’s 2025 novel Satyabhama, the film retells Lord Krishna’s story from Satyabhama’s perspective, exploring his relationships with consorts Rukmini and Satyabhama following his separation from Radha. Originally titled Shri Radha Ramanam, it released worldwide on 7 May 2026 as ‘Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart’ (Hridayam), earned positive reviews from critics, and was declared tax-free in Uttar Pradesh.
