Director Aditya Sarpotdar puts ‘Munjya 2’ ON HOLD

Director Aditya Sarpotdar puts 'Munjya 2' ON HOLD, says, ‘I would rather NOT MAKE IT than deliver something mediocre’

Director Aditya Sarpotdar says ‘Munjya 2’ will only happen when the script meets his standards. His film ‘Munjya’, starring Sharvari and Mona Singh, earned over Rs 100 crore worldwide. He is currently focused on his next film, ‘Shakti Shalini’.

Aditya Sarpotdar took a chance on a little-known Konkan folk spirit two years ago, and it worked out well. His film ‘Munjya’ earned over Rs 100 crore worldwide without any big star or a famous franchise backing it. The film was a big hit and made Sarpotdar a well-known name in the industry. Now, while fans keep asking for ‘Munjya 2’, the director says he is currently busy with his next film, ‘Shakti Shalini’.

Sarpotdar speaks out on ‘Munjya 2’

In a conversation with Variety India, the director was asked the one thing everyone wants to know: when is ‘Munjya 2’ coming? Sarpotdar did not shy away from the question. “I get a lot of messages about it and it’s good to know people want to watch it. But that’s the point. I can’t disappoint them with something that’s mediocre. I would rather not make it than deliver something that’s not up to the standard”, he said.He further added, “I’m okay with being asked maybe 10 years later, ‘Why didn’t you make it?’ But until I don’t feel that my script matches a certain level or a quality and is something totally new and beyond people’s expectations, I will not make it.”

About the film ‘Munjya’

‘Munjya’ features Sharvari, Mona Singh, Abhay Verma and Sathyaraj in key roles and is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. The film is rooted in Indian mythology and cultural beliefs, with the story centering around the folk spirit Munjya. The screenplay was penned by Yogesh Chandekar and Niren Bhatt, while the music was composed by the popular duo Sachin-Jigar.
