Indian talent is continuing to shine on one of the world’s biggest stages which is surely the International Emmy Awards. From breakthrough nominations to historic wins, actors, comedians, and creators have brought Indian storytelling and artistry to global recognition. Let’s take a look at a few of the Indian talents at Emmys.

Diljit Dosanjh: A proud first nomination

Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has created history by bagging his first-ever International Emmy nomination in the Best Performance by an Actor category. His role as the legendary Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, in Imtiaz Ali’s biopic Amar Singh Chamkila, has won him worldwide praise. Reacting to the nomination, Diljit wrote on Instagram, “It’s all because of Imtiaz Ali Sir.”

Vir Das

In 2023, comedian and actor Vir Das became the first Indian to win the Emmy for Best Comedy Special. This acheivement was with his show Vir Das: Landing. Vir’s achievement was a huge step forward for the Indian stand-up comedy scene on the global scale. He also became the first Indian ever to host International Emmys. Reacting to the same, the actor earlier wrote on social media, “Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy Host I can’t wait to host the @iemmys this year! Crazy. Thank you for having me. Tremendously honoured and excited!”

Arjun Mathur

Back in 2020, actor Arjun Mathur earned India’s first-ever International Emmy nomination in the Best Performance by an Actor category. His sensitive portrayal of Karan Mehra who is a gay wedding planner in ‘Made in Heaven’, brought important themes of love, identity, and acceptance into mainstream conversation.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui

In 2021, Nawazuddin Siddiqui added to India’s growing Emmy journey with his nomination for ‘Serious Men’. Playing Ayyan Mani, a father who fabricates his son’s genius to escape poverty, Nawaz delivered a layered performance that received much praises from the audiences and critics.

Shefali Shah and Jim Sarbh

Last year also saw Shefali Shah nominated for ‘Delhi Crime: Season 2’, where her role as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi reflected both strength and vulnerability. Actor Jim Sarbh too received his first Emmy nomination for embodying Dr Homi J. Bhabha in ‘Rocket Boys’, a role which received much love from the viewers. Go to Source
