‘DC and Marvel’: When James Gunn reacted to Govinda as Superman

'DC and Marvel': When James Gunn reacted to Govinda as Superman and Kimi Katkar as Spider-Woman

Hollywood and Bollywood collided in a hilarious, unexpected way — all thanks to a viral fan-made video. Superman director James Gunn once stumbled upon a clip that perfectly blended his superhero universe with the unique flair of Bollywood legend Govinda. The moment delighted fans and showcased the global reach of India’s vibrant film culture.

A crossover no one saw coming

The hilarious clip, which resurfaced on social media, featured Govinda in his 1988 film Dariya Dil. In the iconic song Tu Mera Superman, Govinda can be seen dancing in a full-fledged — albeit slightly loose-fitting — Superman costume alongside co-star Kimi Katkar, who was dressed as Spider-Woman. The video is a perfect example of 80s Bollywood charm, complete with energetic dancing and quirky costumes.

James Gunn’s viral reaction

The two worlds officially collided when Gunn himself shared the video on his Instagram handle. The Superman director, known for his playful fan engagement, posted the clip for all his followers to see. He reacted to the bizarre yet wonderful crossover by posting a handshake emoji, and underneath it, he simply wrote, “DC and Marvel,” acknowledging the hilarious (and unofficial) union of the two comic-book worlds in this one-of-a-kind song.

James Gunn’s Superman cinematic future

While this crossover was all in good fun, Gunn is currently hard at work on his official Superman cinematic universe. Following the success of Superman, he announced a follow-up film in September 2025, titled Man of Tomorrow, using new artwork from Jim Lee.
