Siddharth P Malhotra talks about working on ‘Ikka’

‘They trusted me as a human being and as a filmmaker’: ‘Ikka’ director shares how it was like to work with Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna

‘Ikka’ director talks about working on the film and how easy it was for the whole cast to say yes to the script.

Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna are all set and ready to make a comeback to the small screen together with ‘Ikka’, which is slated for release soon. The pairing has become one of the most of the most anticipated ones recently. During one of his latest interviews, the director of the film, Siddharth P Malhotra, weighed in on the project, how he made the casting and more.

Siddharth P Malhotra talks about ‘Ikka’

While talking to India Today, the famed director, who is also known for his work in ‘Kaafir’, ‘Tribhanga’, and ‘Maharaj’, to name a few, shared a few insights about his upcoming project, ‘Ikka.’ He shared during the interview that one of the easiest parts of the film was assembling the cast. Other than Khanna and Deol, the film also casts Dia Mirza and Tillotama Shome as well.He shared, “Actually, the cast was the easiest part. Whoever I approached for this film said yes on the first go. Saying it was difficult would actually be a lie. It’s the power of the script. The script was so good. Luckily, they had seen Maharaj. They had seen my work before. They’ve known me because of my father, my grandfather and my work. So there was already trust. They trusted me as a human being and as a filmmaker, and they loved the script. So, everyone came on board immediately.”He further added that one of the most important things that he was considerate about on set was the fact that everyone should have some form of mutual respect amongst one another. He added, “The one thing nobody is prepared for is that every actor comes with their own personality and their own life. That’s not just Sunny Deol or Akshaye Khanna. That’s everybody who walks onto a set.”

He also added that he loved working with veteran actors, and that there was nothing that needed to be changed during the filming. He mentioned that “There are no other cons. I would only work with actors from that generation. I’ve worked with Rani, Kajol and Kareena—they’re the best people to work with.”He also revealed that many veteran actors now avoid working with a lot of people at once, and that they were able to blend into the film properly. He also added, “They’re sitting with you, bonding with you, discussing scenes and talking about life,” he said. They give you what you need in one or two takes. You’re not spending hours shooting. They’re thorough professionals because they’ve been doing this longer than you could ever imagine.”As for how he kept things in a flow, the director shared that he used to regularly edit scenes. He shared during the interview that after filming all of the shots required for the day, the director would edit them and show all of the people who were present here. He also concluded that, “What happened was that they trusted me. There were no fireworks. They did exactly what I required because they knew where I was taking the film.”‘Ikka’ is all set and ready to release on July 10, 2026, and follows a famed lawyer who is blackmailed into representing a criminal in court. Burdened by saving everything he is on the verge of losing, the lawyer does everything in his power to overcome the challenge before time runs out. Go to Source
