Court rejects plea to change the title of 120 Bahadur

Punjab and Haryana High Court rejects plea to change the title of Farhan Akhar's film '120 Bahadur'

Farhan Akhtar’s next ‘120 Bahadur’ was in the news as the film’s title was questioned and a petitioner filed a plea to the court for the change in its name. The petitioner wanted the title changed to ‘120 Vir Ahir’, but the court refused after hearing the matter on Monday, November 17. During the proceedings, the judges reminded the petitioner that the film honours all 120 soldiers who fought in the historic Battle of Rezang La. However, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has rejected the plea to change the film’s name. Chief Justice Sheel Nagu questioned the need for such sensitivity over the title. He was quoted saying by Bollywood Hungama, “Why are you so sensitive about what name should carry, whether a film should be named so and so? Bravery of soldiers will be seen in that 3 hour or 2-and-a-half hour movie.”The court also heard from Advocate Abhinav Sood, who represented Farhan’s production house Excel Entertainment. He informed the bench that the movie has already been cleared by both the CBFC and the Defence Ministry. Sood added that the PIL was filed too early and was based only on a short three-minute trailer. He assured the court that all 120 soldiers would be honoured properly in the film’s narrative and in the end credits. For those not in the know, ‘120 Bahadur’ tells the powerful true story of 120 Indian soldiers from the 13 Kumaon Regiment who displayed extraordinary courage during the 1962 Battle of Rezang La. Farhan Akhtar plays Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, PVC, the brave commander who led his men in a heroic last stand against impossible odds. ‘120 Bahadur’ is set for release on November 21.
