'Chand Mera Dil' box office collection Day 1: Lakshya and Ananya Panday's film struggles; still beats 'Ek Din' debut numbers

Lakshya Lalwani and Ananya Panday’s ‘Chand Mera Dil’ has been released in cinemas on May 22, 2026. The intense romantic drama has received mixed reactions from the audience as well as the critics. Backed by Karan Johar’s production house, the film witnessed a disappointing start at the box office on its opening day. However, given the lack of pre-release buzz and minimal hype surrounding the project, its Day 1 earnings can still be considered fairly decent.

‘Chand Mera Dil’ box office collection Day 1

According to the Sacnilk report, the Vivek Soni directorial has minted Rs 2.90 crore across 4,944 shows on Day 1. With that, the total India gross collections are now Rs 3.39 crore, while the total India net earnings stand at Rs 2.90 crore. The film had an overall occupancy of 17.31% at theatres on Day 1.The film did beat the first-day collection of Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi’s ‘Ek Din’, which was Rs 1.15 crore.

Box office competition

‘Chand Mera Dil’ is facing competition from the previous week’s release, ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’, starring Ayushmann Khurran, Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan, and Wamiqa Gabbi. The Lakshya and Ananya starrer also clashed at the box office with the Hollywood release, ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu’.

Directed by Vivek Soni, the film features Lakshya as Aarav, Ananya Panday as Chandni, and Aastha Singh as Jyotsna. The cast also includes Pratham Rathod, Aashish Dubey, Ankur Poddar, and Elvis Jose.The IMDb summary of the film read, “Chronicles the intertwined lives of engineering students as they navigate academic challenges, forge friendships, and discover themselves in university.”According to the Bollywood Hungama report, the makers of the movie were directed by the Central Board of Film Certification to trim the intimate scenes. It stated that the 10-second kissing sequence was removed and replaced with an alternate scene.The report added that overall 96 seconds of kissing visuals were dropped from the film.
