Bobby on who could play the lead in possible Dharmendra biopic

‘Neither me, nor Sunny Deol’: Bobby Deol on who could play the lead in possible Dharmendra biopic

Bobby Deol broke down on Aap Ki Adalat while remembering his late father Dharmendra, saying “Nobody” could play him in a biopic — not even he or Sunny Deol. He also defended Dharmendra’s temperament, calling him a man with a golden heart. Bobby’s next film, Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar, releases this Friday.

Following the passing of veteran actor Dharmendra last year, his family and devoted fanbase continue to mourn the irreplaceable void left behind. His son Bobby Deol has frequently expressed his grief publicly, often becoming visibly emotional whenever he speaks about his late father.

Bobby Deol says ‘nobody’ can play Dharmendra on screen

During his recent appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Bobby was questioned by an audience member about who he felt could portray his late father Dharmendra in a potential biopic. When asked to choose between himself and his elder brother Sunny Deol, Bobby responded without a moment’s hesitation, “Nobody.” Overcome with emotion, he further stated, “No one can be like him. The kind of person he was, there can never be another.”

Bobby Deol defends his father’s actions

Another audience member brought up stories of Dharmendra reportedly losing his temper and lashing out at people who misbehaved. Bobby didn’t hesitate to defend his father, offering a side of the story that many may not have known. “Dad was the kind of person who could never tolerate anyone speaking unfairly or disrespectfully. He did indeed raised his hands and hit hard. But afterwards, he would bring that same person inside, feed them food, give them milk, buy them new clothes. That’s the kind of person he was,” Bobby said.He further added, “I always felt bad whenever he hit someone. I have never been like that. Since childhood, I have seen that I never felt the need to raise my hand on anyone, and I don’t like doing it either.”

Bobby Deol’s next: Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bandar’

On the professional front, Bobby Deol is set to be seen next in director Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar, scheduled to release in theatres this Friday. The film, which is inspired by real events, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025, where it garnered significant attention. Penned by Paatal Lok, Kohrra, and Udta Punjab writers Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, the film features an expansive cast comprising Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Raj B Shetty, Riddhi Sen, Indrajith Sukumaran, Jitendra Joshi, Nagesh Bhonsle, and Ankush Gedam.
