Anshula Kapoor recalls being judged by ‘aunties’

Anshula Kapoor recalls being judged by ‘aunties’ after Boney Kapoor-Mona Shourie’s divorce; admits she blamed herself

Boney Kapoor tied the knot with late Mona Shourie in 1983, and together they welcomed two children, actor Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. But their marriage came to an end in 1996, the very year Boney married late actress Sridevi.Anshula recently opened up about how her parents’ separation left a lasting mark on her childhood and admitted that for the longest time, she believed their split happened because of her.

Anshula Kapoor recalls childhood guilt and fear

Anshula spoke honestly about how, as a child, she struggled to understand why her parents separated. She carried a sense of guilt at a very young age. In an interview with The Quint she said, “Under confidence seeped into my being, perhaps at the age of five or six, once my parents separated. I, for the longest time, thought that my parents’ relationship didn’t work out because of me, that I was the root cause of it.”She further added, “For a six-year-old to carry that weight is a lot. But my mom was the one who helped me understand that relationships are between two people. They start and end because of things that happen between those two people. And that, as a child, you have no bearing on them.”

Anshula recalls facing society’s judgement

The divorce not only affected her personally but also changed how people around her behaved. She shared how society often judged her for something she could not control.“I don’t remember a single moment in my life — even as a child — where I didn’t have to be resilient. Navigating the separation of my parents, when nobody really understood what was going on, was a lot. Add to that all those aunties giving you side-eyes and judgy looks, people suddenly going silent when you enter a group, and others just not wanting to talk to you, it does something to you. It makes you resilient. It makes you a little thick-skinned. But it also makes you a lot more isolated,” she added.

Anshula Kapoor credits mother as strongest support

While speaking about her journey, Anshula remembered her late mother Mona Shourie as her biggest strength. She explained how her mother helped her find confidence and gave her the courage to keep going. She revealed, “I always say that she was the wind beneath my wings. She was my literal spinal cord.”On the work front, Anshula Kapoor was last seen in the OTT reality series ‘The Traitors’, hosted by Karan Johar. Go to Source
