Try not to laugh: Aryna Sabalenka calls Carlos Alcaraz ‘Jannik Sinner’ on live TV after US Open win – VIDEO

Aryna Sabalenka defended her 2025 US Open title by beating Amanda Anisimova. She also had a funny TV moment when she accidentally called men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz by rival Jannik Sinner’s name.

Aryna Sabalenka made history by becoming the first woman since Serena Williams in 2014 to defend her US Open crown. She defeated local girl Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6(3) in the 2025 US Open final to win her fourth Grand Slam trophy on Saturday, September 6.

A day after her historic win, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz beat Italy’s Jannik Sinner to win his second US Open title in the men’s singles category. Sabalenka had a funny and embarrassing moment on live TV on Monday morning during an interview on NBC News, where she accidentally called Alcaraz by the name of his rival, Jannik Sinner.

Both Sabalenka and Alcaraz were on the show to talk about their victories and upcoming plans. When asked about their social media plans, Sabalenka accidentally called Alcaraz “Jannik” before stopping midway as she realised her mistake. The room went quiet for a moment, and Alcaraz jokingly stood up as if to leave.

Sabalenka’s funny mistake on live TV

Sabalenka looked shocked, but both champions laughed it off. Alcaraz went on to defend Sabalenka, saying, “It’s 9 in the morning, so don’t worry. It’s all good,” Sabalenka called it her “worst” mistake. A video of the incident is going viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz beat Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the men’s final. He had also beaten Sinner in the French Open final earlier this year to win his first Grand Slam of the season. Both Sabalenka and Alcaraz earned $5 million each in prize money, the highest among the four Grand Slam tournaments this year.
