Man United manager Amorim says players want him to stay; Mount reveals inside details: ‘They don’t want to change’

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has presented victory over Sunderland as players wanting him to stay, while Mason Mount revealed the inside details.

Ruben Amorim said Manchester United’s victory over Sunderland was proof that the players do not want him sacked, as Mason Mount also revealed the dressing room’s feelings for the 40-year-old Portuguese tactician. Amorim entered the match under immense pressure with news of his possible sacking doing the rounds, but came out unscathed as goals from Mount and Benjamin Sesko guided Man United to a 2-0 win at Old Trafford.

The victory helped Man Utd move to ninth position in the English Premier League table from 14th as Amorim took his tally to 37 points from 34 matches in the league as United coach.

Amorim claims Man United players want him to stay

While the record shows that Amorim is far from stamping his authority on the Red Devils, the former Sporting CP manager said the Sunderland victory underlined that he has the backing of the players.

“I saw today and I know they want to do the best and I know they don’t want to change the coach all the time,” he said, “but, like I said this week, being with the manager is: ‘I will kill myself to do anything in every transition.’ We need to show with actions.

“Sometimes when we look at our team I know for sure that they know sometimes we can do better. We need to show it on the pitch, not just at home, but also abroad.”

Mount says United players are ‘100%’ behind Amorim

In a separate interview, Mount confirmed that the Man United dressing room is “100%” behind Amorim as he hoped to script a streak of wins with the club.

“We’re 100% behind the gaffer,” Mount told BBC Sport. “We’ve had some results that hurt us – the team, the staff and the fans – but that was important today.

“We thought after Chelsea it would be the start of something and then we go to Brentford and have a disappointing result. It starts today and we’ll be working hard over the break. We want to get back-to-back wins, then three in a row and push on for the top four.”

Man United’s next match is against Liverpool on 19 October after the international break.
