US President Donald Trump, wearing a cap that read “Was Right About Everything” in the Oval Office, once again claimed credit for stopping a “nuclear war” between India and Pakistan.

Although Trump has repeated the claim multiple times, New Delhi has firmly rejected it, stressing that Pakistan sought the ceasefire after sustaining significant losses in Operation Sindoor.

Reiterating his version of events on Saturday, Trump said: “We solved what could’ve been a nuclear war with India and Pakistan. It was getting ready to be a nuclear war.”

Since May 10, when Trump declared on social media that Washington had brokered a “full and immediate” ceasefire between India and Pakistan after a “long night” of negotiations, he has reiterated more than 40 times that he was the one who “helped resolve” tensions between the two neighbours.

India has repeatedly asserted that the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan was the outcome of direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both armies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also told Parliament that no foreign leader played a role in halting Operation Sindoor, stressing that the decision was India’s alone.

Turning to the ongoing war in Ukraine, Trump told reporters he would take a “very important decision” in the next two weeks, which could involve “massive sanctions or tariffs” on Moscow, or telling Kyiv that “it’s not Washington’s war.”

“In two weeks, we are going to know which way I am going… whether it’s massive sanctions or massive tariffs or both, or do we do nothing and say it’s your fight,” Trump said, while pressing for a face-to-face meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He added: “It takes two to tango. I wanted to have a meeting with those two. If they don’t meet, then why it was so, after I told them to have a meeting.”

The US president further claimed: “I’ve settled seven wars and you think about pre-wars, that’ll be three, so 10 wars… Not happy at all. Over the next two weeks we are going to find out which way it’s going to go.”

His comments came as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Putin is willing to meet Zelenskyy if all issues requiring top-level discussion are worked out in advance by experts and ministers.
