A new video has surfaced, raising serious questions over the tragic death of Assam’s iconic singer Zubeen Garg. The footage, reportedly from Singapore, shows him purportedly being coerced into the sea by members linked to the Assam Association of Singapore.

The shocking visuals have sparked outrage, with many demanding accountability for the alleged negligence faced by the cultural icon in his final moments.

Following a late-night drinking party hosted by Sandipan Garg, Siddhartha Sharma, and Shekhar Goswami, Garg was allegedly taken to the sea the next morning. According to the footage, despite his fear of water, he was urged to enter without any safety gear.

The footage indicates that Shekhar Goswami, a longtime trusted associate, repeatedly pressed Garg to step into the water, despite his unwillingness and apparent lack of mental preparation.

In an interview with a YouTuber from Assam on Monday, Goswami feigned ignorance about several incidents from that fateful day and provided statements contradicting the video evidence.

On that ill-fated day, Garg was taken to the yacht by Assam Association members Tanmoy Phukan, Abhimanyu, and Sandipan Garg, according to Goswami’s own account. The associates allegedly forced Garg into the water.

In the viral video, Garg mentions Goswami as the one who taught him how to swim. Goswami can be heard urging him, “Come on, let’s go there, let’s go,” before coaxing him to get into the water and swim across.

After Goswami, Garg said, “Will you go?” Goswami responded, “Come on.” Then, one of those present said, “Go, but you have to come back again.” Another laughed and remarked, “You have to come back. This is the best. It’s easy to go.”

According to the video footage, one person suggested giving Garg a life jacket. Although someone brought one and tried to put it on him, Garg pushed it away. Another person remarked, “How will he get down like this? Should we push him? Take Zubeen along. Zubeen da, it’s right here with you.”

The circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg’s death have plunged into deeper mystery. The people of Assam have condemned the extreme negligence and irresponsibility shown towards Garg. There is growing demand to hold all those involved in the incident accountable.

Meanwhile, thousands of mourning fans continued to throng Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on Monday to pay their final respects to Zubeen Garg.

Devotees queued through the night, waiting hours to get a last glimpse of the 52-year-old singer, whose body was placed in a glass casket covered with a traditional Assamese gamosa.

On the ongoing investigation into Garg’s death, registered by the CID, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told PTI on Sunday that statements of individuals who filed multiple FIRs against the accused are being recorded.

“Both the accused—NEIF Chief Organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma—are currently not in the country. My immediate focus is to ensure that Zubeen’s last rites proceed smoothly,” Sarma said.

He added, “Since the incident occurred in Singapore, their police will investigate the matter. Our role is limited to examining whether there was any conspiracy in taking him there.”

Though Zubeen Garg was best known for his work in Assamese, Bengali, and Hindi films and music, his performances spanned more than 40 languages and dialects, including Bishnupriya Manipuri, Adi, Boro, English, Goalpariya, Kannada, Karbi, Khasi, Malayalam, Marathi, Mising, Nepali, Odia, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Tiwa.
