The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued alerts across affected regions, warning of intense rainfall at isolated places. In its latest advisory, the IMD said heavy to very heavy rain is very likely in areas of Gujarat, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

The IMD also observed convective activity (storm-forming clouds) over Jammu, Patiala, and Kufri, suggesting likely thunderstorms in the region.

Additionally, a district-wise nowcast warning has been issued by the weather department.

A Red nowcast warning has been issued for Chamba and Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, and Ludhiana, Sangrur, Barnala, and Mansa in Punjab, signalling heavy rain with lightning and thunderstorms. An Orange warning has been issued for parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Konkan, Bihar, and Odisha.

Rainfall is expected to continue across northwest India till August 26, with intensity decreasing afterward. However, Gujarat is likely to see heavy showers till August 30, and Rajasthan till August 27.

In particular, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab may experience very heavy rainfall on August 25 and 26. The IMD has forecast continued rain for Himachal Pradesh over the next 7 days.

The IMD also issued an advisory, urging residents to stay indoors during intense showers, avoid sheltering under trees or weak structures, check road and traffic conditions before stepping out, and limit non-essential travel.
