Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday mocked Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi after a video, widely shared on social media, showed the latter answering questions by the media following a press briefing, while senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh sat next to him.

In the video, Jairam Ramesh was seen correcting Rahul Gandhi when the Leader of the Opposition said, “unfortunately,” he was a member of the Parliament.

“Unfortunately, I am a member of Parliament, and I’m hopeful that I will be allowed to speak in the Parliament,” Rahul Gandhi said.

As he finished speaking, Jairam Ramesh could be heard suggesting he mend his words.

“Unfortunately, I’m a member of Parliament, you can make a joke, saying it is unfortunate for you, not unfortunate for me,” Ramesh suggested to Gandhi.

As Rahul Gandhi agreed, he took the mic and said, “See, I want to make it clear, unfortunately for you, I am a member of Parliament.”

Sharing the video on his X handle, Rijiju wrote, “My senior friend dear Jairam ji, itna jyada bhi class nahi lena hai, Rahul Gandhi ji is very matured man, and he is also the Leader of Opposition.”

On Thursday, too, Rijiju mocked Gandhi after a video showed him addressing the public in Bihar, while Tejashwi Yadav could be seen helping him with quotes.

Speaking in Nalanda on the third day of his Voter Adhikar Yatra in the state, Rahul Gandhi could be heard remembering Shri Krishna Singh, also known as Shri Babu, the first Chief Minister of Bihar.

As he pauses, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav asks him to speak on eradicating unemployment if the Mahagathbandhan is elected to power in the upcoming assembly polls in the state.

“We remember the first Chief Minister of the state, Babu Ji,” Gandhi said, as Tejashwi prompted, “Shri Krishna Babu Ji”.

“We thank all of you from our hearts,” Rahul Gandhi continues.

Meanwhile, Tejashwi could be heard prompting Gandhi to say that unemployment would be eradicated from the state if we are voted to power, to which, Rahul Gandhi responds, “Haan….” (Yes).

Sharing the video, Rjiju, on X, wrote, “Aur ek” (Another one).

The ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ began on Sunday from Sasaram.

The 16-day yatra has been organised to protest against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar and alleged ‘vote chori’.

The yatra will cover more than 1,300 km across over 20 districts and conclude in Patna on September 1.
