A 17-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj was murdered by his granduncle, who beheaded and dismembered him before dumping the body parts in separate locations, allegedly on the advice of a tantrik.

The accused, identified as Sharan Singh, was arrested from the Kareli area of the city.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Bharti told news agency PTI that Singh, brother of the victim’s grandfather, confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Police said Sharan’s son and daughter had died by suicide in 2023 and 2024. Grieving their loss, he sought guidance from a tantrik, who allegedly told him that his nephew, Piyush, was meant to die. However, his own children had perished in the boy’s place.

The tantrik then advised Sharan to kill Piyush.

The deceased was a Class 11 student and was reported missing on August 26 after he did not return home from school.

His mother, Kamini Devi, approached the school and learnt that Piyush had not attended classes that day and hence filed a missing complaint.

Later, police recovered a torso from a drain in Naini industrial area, but identification could not be ascertained as the head was missing. The following day, Piyush’s head was found in the Saidpur Kachhar area, confirming his identity.

Investigations revealed that a local woman had seen a man on a scooter throwing a bundle into the drain. Her description matched Sharan, who was subsequently arrested.

He admitted to the murder, telling police he had wrapped the torso in a sari and disposed of it using his scooter.

Investigations into the case were underway.

In a separate incident, a 19-year-old youth, allegedly angry over being spurned, killed a teenage girl by hitting her with a shovel and attempted to bury her body inside her house.

The accused, identified as Samun, was arrested following the incident that happened at Boudha village in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police NP Singh, Samun entered the 14-year-old girl’s house under the Chhaprauli police station limits on August 27 and killed her by hitting her with a shovel.

During interrogation, Samun admitted that he loved the girl, but the feeling was not reciprocated. The accused intended to have physical relations with the girl, but she refused, angering him and leading to the murder, ASP Singh said.
