In a chilling and bizarre turn of events in Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh, a lorry driver claims to have fallen victim to what locals are calling the revenge of two snakes. The man was reportedly bitten by a cobra just two days after accidentally running over a snake — an incident that has left the entire village both alarmed and obsessed.

The driver, Arif alias Sharif, a resident of the Kotwali Sadar area on Mathura Road, works as a freight transporter and often drives between Hathras and Mathura. According to his account, last Saturday he inadvertently ran over a snake near the Dariyapur area close to Hathras Junction. “I saw it in the mirror… half of its body was crushed under the rear wheel,” he said. “I thought it was an unfortunate accident, but since then, I haven’t been at peace.”

A Black Snake Returns

What followed has left Sharif shaken. He claims that ever since the incident, he began spotting a black snake repeatedly, first near his home on Sunday, and then again on Monday morning while en route to Sasni.

“As I was driving past Sasni police station, the same black snake suddenly appeared inside the vehicle,” Sharif recalled. “I slammed on the brakes, but it bit my right hand before I could react. The pain was unbearable. I lost control and the vehicle skidded to a halt before I collapsed.”

He further claimed that the snake had been hiding under the dashboard, waiting to strike.

Under Medical Supervision

Sharif’s acquaintances, Mahesh and Raju, rushed him to the district hospital, where he was immediately treated with anti-venom and admitted for observation. Dr Anil Kumar, the attending physician, confirmed that the bite was venomous but said Sharif’s life was no longer at risk thanks to timely treatment.

“He’s physically stable, but clearly traumatised. He keeps repeating that the snake is still following him,” the doctor said, noting that Sharif must remain under 24-hour medical supervision.

Locals Call It ‘Revenge’

The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the area, with many villagers convinced it’s a case of supernatural revenge — the female cobra avenging her mate. Others have attributed it to increased snake activity during this time of year.

A forest department official stated that snake sightings do rise between September and November, particularly in regions with soft soil. “Drivers should routinely inspect their vehicles, and anyone spotting a snake should alert the forest department immediately,” he advised.

Whether coincidence or folklore come to life, the tale has left Hathras residents both spooked and intrigued, and Sharif, undoubtedly, with a story he won’t soon forget.
