Indian government sources have issued a comprehensive rejection of claims made by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during his address to the UN General Assembly, dismissing his narrative of “aggression from the eastern front” as completely baseless. The diplomatic counter-offensive focused on dismantling Pakistan’s attempt to portray itself as a victim while deflecting accountability for cross-border terrorism.

Addressing a world grappling with intensifying conflicts and humanitarian crises, Prime Minister Sharif used the platform to accuse India of violating international law and launching an act of aggression in May. He asserted that India had not positively responded to the offer of cooperation in investigating the Pahalgam incident, instead trying to “take political advantage of a humanitarian tragedy” by attacking civilian areas. Sharif also made a dramatic, unverified claim, stating that the Pakistani Air Force, under the leadership of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar, had defeated the enemy, resulting in “seven Indian fighter jets reduced to rubble.”

Indian government sources categorically rejected these assertions. They stated that the Pahalgam incident and other border events were investigated independently by India, with findings consistently pointing to cross-border infiltration and ceasefire violations by Pakistan-based actors. India affirmed its strict adherence to international humanitarian law, counter-claiming that evidence from border monitoring indicates that Pakistan-based militants frequently operate from civilian zones, thereby putting their own population at risk.

Crucially, India dismissed the claim regarding the destruction of its Air Force assets as “unverified and propaganda aimed at inflating Pakistan’s military narrative,” asserting that the Indian Air Force maintains full operational readiness. India asserts that Pakistan’s narrative is a recurring tactic to deflect accountability from its internal security failures and its continued support for cross-border terrorism. While India remains committed to dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution, it urges the international community to recognise the threat posed by the terror infrastructure originating from Pakistan, demanding its immediate dismantlement rather than tolerating Pakistan’s attempts to project victimhood at the United Nations.
