The Bihar government has released the official holiday calendar for 2026, offering government employees a total of 44 days off. The schedule includes general, public, and optional leaves, while retaining the five-day workweek for secretariat and directorate offices and a six-day week for regional offices.

The list covers all major festivals and special days, such as Holi, Eid, Diwali, Durga Puja, Mahashivratri, Buddha Purnima, Christmas, Republic Day, and Independence Day. Additionally, holidays are observed on Bihar Day (March 22) and other local occasions.

  • Vasant Panchami: 23 January, Friday
  • Sant Ravidas Jayanti: 1 February, Sunday
  • Shab-e-Barat: 4 February, Wednesday
  • Mahashivratri: 15 February, Sunday
  • Samrat Ashok Ashtami: 26 March, Thursday
  • Veer Kunwar Singh Jayanti: 23 April, Thursday
  • Janaki Navami: 25 April, Saturday

The dates for Muslim festivals are subject to change based on moon sightings. Notably, there will be a two-day holiday for Holi on March 3 and 4, 2026.

Special public holidays are also designated for banks, courts, and other institutions, including the annual bank account closure on April 1, 2026.

Employees are also entitled to 17 days of optional leave, which includes festivals and special occasions across different communities. Staff can select their leave days as per their preference.

The list incorporates important festivals from Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, and other communities, and additional holidays have been allotted for certain festivals like Holi.
