Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday lashed out at Senior Counsellor for Trade and Manufacturing of the White House, Peter Navarro, after he justified US President Donald Trump’s decision to levy a 50 per cent tariff on imports from India.

In an X post, the Sena MP fact-checked the Trump adviser and said that the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war is not India’s war, and it never was. A day before, Navarro had labelled the Russia-Ukraine war as (Prime Minister Narendra) “Modi’s war”.

She also mentioned that India was not the sole country to have been purchasing crude oil from Russia.

“Wake up every day to the same rant from him about India,” Priyanka wrote on X, as she shared a screenshot from Navarro’s handle.

“Fact check: Russia-Ukraine, wasn’t and isn’t, India’s war. Regarding Russian Oil, India isn’t the only one,” she added.

On Friday, Navarro, considered the key driver behind the 50 per cent tariffs on India, again accused India of profiting out of Russian oil in scalding remarks.

“India’s Big Oil lobby has turned the largest democracy in the world into a massive refining hub and oil money laundromat for the Kremlin. Indian refiners buy cheap Russian oil, process it, and export fuels to Europe, Africa, and Asia, shielded from sanctions under the pretense of neutrality, he mentioned in a series of posts on X.

The White House Trade advisor claimed that the tariffs were aimed at cutting off the financial lifeline given by India to Putin’s war in Ukraine.

On Thursday too, Priyanka had slammed Peter Navarro over his “Indians are arrogant” remark, and had said, “Can gauge Peter Navarro’s state of mind after hearing his angry outburst against India and Indians for not signing up to US’ idea of a trade deal.”

Earlier, Priyanka, in an X post, had termed “unfortunate” and said the US administration had failed to understand the importance of the strategic relationship that it has invested in with India.

“It is unfortunate that the current US Administration has failed to understand the importance of the strategic relationship that it has invested in with India over several decades – two democracies that adhere to rules based order and international trade could only strengthen each other and the world, now the only ones benefiting of this unilateral tariffs are those forces antithetical to democracies & rule based order.”

“We shall overcome as a nation, resolve and hard work of a nation of 140 crore people won’t be wasted,” she wrote on X.
