From a modest background in Rajasthan’s Pali district, a first-year BCA student has scripted an extraordinary success story that has now won him recognition at the state level. Fateh Singh, who taught himself coding by watching YouTube tutorials, has developed over 50 websites and launched his own startup, Padharo Bazaar (Digital Shop), which is providing an online platform for local shopkeepers to reach customers directly.

The idea, conceived during his school days, aims at strengthening local trade by offering an alternative to multinational e-commerce platforms. Through his initiative, residents of Pali can order goods online and have them delivered within an hour.

The Rajasthan government recognised his efforts, with the Chief Minister himself honouring him and awarding a cash prize. Most recently, his venture earned a place in the top-20 startups of Rajasthan during the IT Day 2025 celebrations at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur. The jury of the Business Innovation Program-Pitch Battle praised the project for its potential to bolster the state’s local economy.

Fateh Singh recalls that the idea first took shape while he was preparing for his Class 12 examinations, when his teacher, Raju Sir, introduced him to the concept of startups and government support available for young innovators. Encouraged by the inputs, he registered his startup and was allotted a workplace by the state under its innovation programme.

“In college, my teacher said that there are many problems around us, they can be solved by a startup. In such a situation, I understood that today is the time of the digital age,” Singh said while he shared how the thought of creating a platform to spread digital awareness among kids came to his mind. “I learned to make websites from YouTube. Later I have made websites of 50 shops in Pali city. My startup ‘Digital Dukaan’ was selected, which was also appreciated by the Chief Minister,” Fateh Singh told Local18.

His college principal, Mahendra Singh Rajpurohit, lauded the young entrepreneur. “I have seen passion in Fateh Singh, who is a BCA first year student, right from the beginning. When we talked to him about his self-employment, we came to know that he wants to move ahead and work right from his student life. Therefore, we tried to get him better results. As a result of that, he got the idea of making a website after watching YouTube, in which he has made more than 50 websites. The Rajasthan government also honoured him,” he said, adding that such students inspire entire campuses.

By translating international tutorial videos into Hindi, Fateh Singh mastered coding skills with limited resources. His mission is clear – empower local shopkeepers, encourage self-reliance and ensure that India’s money stays within the country.

Having already carved out a niche in the startup ecosystem of Rajasthan, Fateh Singh is now planning to expand Padharo Bazaar, connect more shops across the district, and launch a mobile application.
