Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in the Dussehra celebrations organised by the IP Extension Ramlila Committee in the national capital on Thursday.

According to officials, the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at the venue, located in the Patparganj area of East Delhi, around 6 pm and will participate in the traditional Ravana Dahan ceremony, marking the triumph of good over evil.

This will not be the first time PM Modi is joining the Dussehra festivities in the city.

Last year, he attended the Luv Kush Ramlila at Delhi’s Red Fort Grounds, where he fired the symbolic arrow to set ablaze the towering effigies of Ravana, Meghnath, and Kumbhkaran.

Addressing the gathering then, he had underlined the festival’s message of courage, peace, and the enduring power of truth.

In 2023, PM Modi joined the Dussehra celebrations at the DDA ground in Delhi’s Dwarka, where he urged people to take ten pledges, including helping improve the socio-economic condition of at least one underprivileged family.

He was welcomed on stage with traditional honours, as thousands in the crowd awaited the symbolic ‘Lanka Dahan’ ritual.

PM Modi opened his address with chants of “Siyavar Ramchandra Ki Jai” and extended greetings on Navratri and Vijayadashami.

He urged citizens to eliminate social distortions such as casteism and regionalism that weaken harmony.

Highlighting the tradition of shastra pooja on Vijayadashami, he said that in India, weapons are revered not for aggression or conquest, but for safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.

This year, the IP Extension event is expected to see a large turnout, with elaborate security arrangements being put in place ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
