PM Modi Condoles BJP Leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra’s Demise, Hails His Role In Delhi BJP’s Growth

PM Modi paid tribute to veteran BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra in Delhi, honoring his legacy as Delhi BJP’s first president and five-time MP after his demise.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid his last respects to veteran BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra and offered condolences to his family at his residence in Delhi. Malhotra, who was the party’s first president in Delhi, passed away earlier in the day. He was 93.

The Prime Minister shared a heartfelt tribute, acknowledging the nonagenarian’s lifelong commitment to public service and his significant role in shaping Delhi’s development.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Went to the residence of late Shri VK Malhotra Ji and paid tributes to him. Also expressed condolences to his family. His contribution to Delhi’s development and furthering our Party’s good governance agenda will be forever remembered.(sic)”

Earlier, the PM lauded Malhotra’s contribution to public life and remembered him for strengthening the party in Delhi.

“Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra Ji distinguished himself as an outstanding leader, who had a very good understanding of people’s issues. He played a vital role in strengthening our Party in Delhi. He is also remembered for his Parliamentary interventions. Pained by his passing away. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” he tweeted.

The Delhi government has cancelled multiple events following the demise of the veteran leader. Top party leaders, including Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan, BJP national president JP Nadda and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, paid tributes to Malhotra.

Vice-President Radhakrishnan expressed anguish over the passing away of the veteran leader.

“He was an outstanding leader, widely respected for his deep understanding of people’s concerns. Shri Malhotra Ji’s invaluable contributions to public life including in the field of sports administration will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and admirers in this hour of grief. Om Shanti,” the Vice-President wrote on his official X handle.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta called Malhotra the “guardian of all our karyakartas” and said that his death is “an extremely painful and irreparable loss”.

“From the days of the Jan Sangh to the establishment of the BJP, his life remained a living example of nationalism, organisational skills and discipline,” the Chief Minister said in an X post in Hindi.

“As the first president of Delhi BJP, he strengthened the foundation of the organisation and guided countless workers on the path of service and dedication. His demise has left a deep void not only in the BJP family but also in social life at large,” she added.

JP Nadda called Malhotra an “inspiration” for all party workers.

“Today, in Delhi, I paid my last respects and offered tributes to the mortal remains of Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra ji, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and BJP, and met with the bereaved family members to express my condolences. His struggle, unparalleled contribution, and sacrifice for the expansion of the organization and the upliftment of the nation and society are unforgettable. Vijay Kumar Malhotra ji, who was always dedicated to the organization and public service, his life and thoughts are an inspiration for all BJP workers,” he tweeted.

Who Was VK Malhotra?

A five-time MP from Delhi, Malhotra was undergoing treatment at AIIMS for the last few days.

He was one of the most prominent leaders of the Delhi BJP, having served as the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. He was also projected as the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the 2008 elections, in which the Congress, led by Sheila Dikshit, continued its winning streak.
