Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Anil Vij raised eyebrows over an alleged internal turmoil in Haryana by claiming that some people from his own party were running a “parallel BJP” in his constituency of Ambala Cantonment, “with the blessing of those at the top”.

“In Ambala Cantonment, some people are running a parallel BJP with the blessings of those at the top,” he said on X. The BJP leader sought suggestions from his supporters in the ‘comment box’, adding that “the party is suffering a lot of damage.”

Vij is Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister and the party’s senior-most and seven-time MLA from Ambala. This was not the first time Vij had targeted members of his own party.

In February, Haryana BJP had issued a show-cause notice to Vij for publicly making remarks against Chief Minister Nayab Saini and state BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli. This came after Vij accused Saini of conspiring to defeat him in the last Assembly election by supporting the rival candidate and Congress rebel Chitra Sarwara, as per reports.

The veteran minister claimed that one Ashish Tayal had backed Chitra Sarwara in the Ambala constituency, where Vij won with a margin of 7,277 votes. Sarwara had contested the elections as an independent candidate after being denied a ticket by the Congress, according to the Times of India.

Vij had also shared a picture of Tayal with Chief Minister Saini and targeted the state government over allegations that his orders were being ignored.

“Ashish Tayal, who calls himself a friend of Nayab Saini, has many pictures with Nayab Saini on Facebook. The same workers who are seen with Ashish Tayal during the assembly elections are also seen with the BJP’s opposing candidate Chitra Sarwara. What is this relationship called? Tayal is still Nayab Saini’s best friend, so the question arises who made him oppose the BJP candidate?” he had said on X.

Vij had also criticised Saini for being out of touch with the practical realities of governance. “The CM never gets down from his flying chariot,” he said.

In January, Vij had called for Badoli to step down from his post after he was accused in a gangrape case in Himachal Pradesh. Vij said Badoli should step down until he is found not guilty to “keep the purity of the party intact.”
