An IPS officer’s alleged suicide sent shockwaves through the country as the mystery around his death continues to deepen. As per the recent update, an angle of bribery and extortion has emerged. During an interrogation, IPS Y Puran Kumar’s former gunman, Sushil Kumar, told the police that he was collecting monthly bribes on the instructions of IG Y. Puran Kumar.

Notably, a corruption case was lodged against Kumar a few days ago. During the interrogation, he named IPS Puran Kumar. As per the police sources, Sushil demanded a monthly bribe of Rs 2 to Rs 2.5 lakh from the liquor businessman. He was arrested after an audio clip related to the bribe demand surfaced.

During questioning, Sushil named Y. Puran Kumar as the one who instructed him to collect the money. On Tuesday evening, Rohtak police produced Sushil in court, after which he was sent to judicial custody.

On September 29, the government had transferred Y. Puran Kumar from the post of IG, Rohtak Range, and appointed him as IG at the Police Training College (PTC), Sunaria.

This transfer was widely perceived within the police department as a punishment posting.

Probe Continues

Haryana Inspector General of Police (IG) Y Puran Kumar allegedly shot himself at his residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh, on Tuesday. Police said Puran Kumar allegedly shot himself with his service revolver. His daughter found his body in the basement.

As the investigation continues, several new twists and turns are emerging into Kumar’s suicide case. According to the police, a “will” and a “last note” were recovered from the deceased officer’s residence.
