The Uttar Pradesh police were successful in solving a murder case of an elderly woman within 24 hours. The incident took place in a village named Gidhiya under the Kon police station in Sonbhadra district. Two women were arrested for allegedly killing their 65-year-old mother-in-law. The victim’s dead body was found in a nearby field.

On August 15, the police began their investigation after the victim’s elder daughter-in-law, Roja Khatun, filed a complaint against unknown people. The authorities quickly formed teams to solve the case. According to CO Harsh Pandey, during their investigation, they learned that the woman, identified as Jaharun Khatun, had four daughters-in-law, and all their husbands lived outside the village to earn their livelihood while the women stayed at home.

Jaharun Khatun’s third and fourth daughters-in-law, Shayra Khatun, wife of Fahimuddin, and Shabeena Khatun, wife of Jafaruddin, were upset with their mother-in-law. The victim, who lived next to their house, often used to scold the duo and even complained about them to their respective husbands about their behaviour and interactions with outsiders. She protested against other men coming to their house in the absence of their husbands. Angry and tired of her interference in their lives, Shayra and Shabeena decided to “kill their mother-in-law.”

The Elderly Woman Was Killed And Then Thrown In A Field

As confirmed by the police, on the morning of August 14, they attacked the elderly woman with sticks and a sickle-like tool called a khurpi and killed her. They then threw her body into a nearby field.

According to a report in Amar Ujala, the CO, Harsh Pandey, confirmed the case. “Iss ghatna ke peeche motive ye tha ki Jaharun Khatun dwara apne putron se apne bahuon ke gair vyaktiyon se sambandh ke baare mein shikayat ki gayi thi jisse naraz ho kar unke teesre aur chauthe number ki bahu jiska naam, Shayra Khatun tatha Shabeena Khatun hai, unhone laathi dande se maar ke Jaharun Khatun ki hatya kar di (The motive behind the murder of Jaharun Khatun was that she had complained to her sons about her daughters-in-law’s relations with outsiders. Angered by this, her third and fourth daughters-in-law killed Jahuran Khatoon by beating her with sticks),” the police official told the media outlet.

Polic Inspector Sanjiv Kumar Singh also revealed that the two women who killed their mother-in-law had confessed to their crime. Moreover, the authorities even found the murder weapon on them.
